The last time Gabrielle Union was in a theatrically released movie was in 2008’s Cadillac Records, although it feels like it’s been longer than 3+ years.
But in 2012 alone, she makes up for that hiatuas with at least 3 feature film projects – 2 that are guaranteed to be released in theaters (Think Like A Man and Good Deeds), and an indie film titled In Our Nature, which was initially titled Family Tree when we first wrote about it in May 2011.
Neither title immediately grabs me, but whatever. I haven’t seen the film yet so…
Union costars in the ensemble indie dramedy alongside Jena Malone, Zach Gilford and John Slattery, and it’s directed by Brian Savelson, from his own screenplay.
In the film, Gabrielle plays love interest to Slattery – a father estranged from his son (played by Gilford) who accidentally wind up in the same vacation home with their two girlfriends – Union being one of them obviously; and Jena Malone being the other (the son’s).
Apparently, some of the conflict will come from the fact that Ms Union is the same age as his son. Not sure if race will though.
The film’s official synopsis courtesy of the SXSW website, reads:
What was intended to be a romantic weekend between two lovers at a country house turns into an awkward family reckoning when the young man’s estranged father unexpectedly shows up with his new girlfriend. As their collisions mount, the weekend transforms into a turning point for all. IN OUR NATURE explores two couples on the verge of major life decisions and the fragments of a modern broken family.
No trailer yet, but above is your first look at the pair of couples in the film.
In Our Nature will make its world premiere at the SXSW film festival next month, and I’ll be there to see it.
