Feels like it’s been awhile since we last wrote about this upcoming film; Monique interviewed the filmmaker, Pierre Bagley, (a really insightful interview by the way) in October soon after I was notified that it would open on February 3rd 2012 (pushed from the October date I’d been stating in previous posts).
Well… it’s February 3rd 2012 and, as far as I know, the film hasn’t opened anywhere in the USA, and I haven’t heard nor received any info on what this means and when we can expect to see it now.
I sent an email to Gyre Entertainment, the production company behind the film, inquiring about its release, so when I get a response I’ll update this post.
Anyway… you folks can judge for yourselves; I’m sure some feel differently than I do.
As a recap… in the film, Taraji P. Henson stars as Cassandra Turner, a fictional character based on the real-life Dr. Catana Starks, a former swim coach at Tennessee State University who became the first woman ever to coach a college men’s golf team. With drive, passion, and guts, she took an unruly group of mismatched kids from around the world and guided them to an all-time record at the PGA National Collegiate Minority Championship.
Henson, Henry Simmons, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tom Felton, Letoya Luckett, star in the sports drama, titled From the Rough, produced and directed by Pierre Bagley.
