Swedish actor Max von Sydow first came to international attention in 1957 in Ingmar Bergman’s inky and austere “The Seventh Seal” as Antonius Block, a man who, while questioning life, death and the existence of God, also gets to play chess with the Grim Reaper. It was a tall order for the 28-year-old actor, but he made the role iconic.
In 2012, at the age of 82, he has been nominated for his second Oscar for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.” His role in the film is completely wordless. Watch the profile below from CBS This Morning on an actor who has never shied away from daunting roles. (TOH!’s interview is here.)
