CW Drama Pilot "Joey Dakota" Finds Its Lead Actress In Amber Stevens

Best known for playing Ashleigh on the ABC Family show Greek, actress Amber Stevens has nabbed a lead role in the planned CW drama pilot Joey Dakota.

Stevens (who is repped by talent agency du jour ICM) will star in the role of Maya on Joey Dakota, which is basically the U.S. version of the popular Israeli show Danny Hollywood.

So, Danny Hollywood went somehting like this:

Danny Hollywood is the most popular rock star in the country’s history. In 1968, on the night before his wedding, he mysteriously dies, leaving behind a nation of broken-hearted fans, a legacy of unforgettable music, and an enduring mystery.

Skip forward to the 21st century. A young filmmaker has embarked on a journey to solve the mystery of Danny’s death. Together with Danny and his band, they must work to prevent his death before it happens – again.

And Joey Dakota goes something like this:

Joey Dakota, a romantic-time-travel-musical, centers on Maya, a documentary filmmaker who travels back in time to the 1990s where she meets and falls in love with the rock star subject of her film.

When she unexpectedly returns to present day, she must find her way back to the past to reunite with her love and prevent his untimely death.

NOW. AGAIN. I wonder who told y'all to pay clooose attention to all these female lead/centered shows coming down the pipe & that Black actresses would get love :-D Folks are gonna hate me, but Men see color first. Women see sex first, so a Black woman as a lead is not a stretch (love interest is still another story). There's a reason you hear about Adepero, Dee & Emayatzy getting love at major agencies. It's bad for Black women now, but things are changing. Expect more of this, real talk. Congratz to Amber!

Love her. Awesome news!

An odd premise. It seems a bit Nickelodeon/Disney Channel mixed with The Fountain. Don't know if it'll work but pretty awesome to have someone with some black ancestry as a lead of a show on The CW. CW is getting diverse. Maggie Q as the star of Nikita and now this.

N'jaila Rhee

Sounds like the Korean movie "The Lake house" but with death.
