Jennifer Beals will star and produce the indie jazz film The Lord of Vinyl – the directorial debut of Dennis Bartok, who also wrote the script.
Patrick Cunningham ("Martha Marcy May Marlene") is also producing.
The film will follow "the bittersweet life and comic despair of a lonely 40-something Angeleno who's obsessed with jazz and hides from the disappointment of the world inside the beauty of music. He unexpectedly finds himself exploring the possibility of new love with an unhappily married post office worker (Beals) just as he attempts a reconciliation with his estranged 11-year old daughter, now living with his ex-wife and former best friend."
Ok so Beals isn't the lonely 40-something Angeleno.
No word on who that fella will be and whether he'll be black or not; although there are mentions of possible plot points involving the "godfather of jazz" Buddy Bolden, and the Variety piece calling the project the "definitive movie for this generation about the love of jazz."
We can only hope…
