Melissa Leo is joining Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko in Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion." The "TRON: Legacy" director wrote the comic book upon which the film is based with Arvid Nelson, and co-wrote the script with William Monahan ("The Departed"). Michael Arndt ("Toy Story 3," "Little Miss Sunshine") also reportedly gave the script a polish. Monahan and Arndt are both excellent scribes, and this cast is looking better and better. At this rate, we'll happilly follow them to "Oblivion." The future-set thriller follows Cruise as Jack; ThePlaylist has the following synopsis:
Based on Kosinski’s own graphic novel, the picture is set in a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition and the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jack (Cruise) discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows. Kurylenko will play Cruise's wife, with Riseborough as the mystery woman who arrives on the uninhabited planet.
The film recently began production in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and is slated for an April 2013 release.
