New Trailer for 'Snow White and the Huntsman'; Stewart Is The One to End The Darkness

In this extended trailer for Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” (June 1), the epic fairy tale adaptation looks less edgy than we’d expected. This mythical action adventure is clearly targeted to a female PG-13 audience.

The classic story has been reworked: Snow White (Kristen Stewart) must save the world from the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron); both appear to have mythical powers. Snow White wears armor and has been trained in the art of combat by the huntsman (“Thor”‘s Chris Hemsworth) who was sent to kill her. Sam Claflin plays this film’s Prince Charming (Armie Hammer’s role in rival “Mirror Mirror,” which looks very twee and will beat “Huntsman” to the finish line on March 30, if not at the box office).

As ever, the Evil Queen is obsessed with maintaining her power by being more beautiful and youthful than everyone else, and Snow White poses a risk to that (she is “the one” and the “end to the darkness”). Will the film wind up a compelling commentary on our beauty-obsessed culture or a reinforcement of damaging values?

Looks like Joan of Arc and the Seven Dwarves. I'm a 64 year-old male, and I'll go see it. I like fantasy, and the effects appear well done.

How does this look less edgy?? I thought this trailer made it look even edgier and darker in tone. I don't understand this review at all.

All I know is, Charlize is super fierce here. I have zero doubts when it comes to her because she's such a great actress but the only thing I don't understand is why the hell a woman who looks like Charlize- one of the most beautiful women in the world- would want to steal an average looking girls' beauty i.e. K Stew? Does not compute.

WE should celebrate a film that has 2 women as leads. Why overthink things and make it about Beauty and Age when it is clearly battle between good and evil.

Forever finding it odd when bloggers bring up when a movie is targeted at women but not when a movie like Transformers is clearly targeted at men. #sexism

This is the stupidest review of the Snow White trailer I've read. It's a PG13 movie why would it be targeted at anyone but that? Is it a bad thing for a film to be targeted at women? Also it's no more a commentary on "beauty obsessed culture" than a superhero movie is a commentary on men that like to wear tights.
