Watch DeWanda Wise ("Black Swan Theory, "Train") & Cuba Gooding Jr In 1st-Look At "Firelight"

Following up with our last post on this site in January… Cuba Gooding Jr will play Dwayne Johnson, a counselor at a youth correctional facility in an upcoming ABC movie titled Firelight (once called Crew 6, with Terence Howard previously eyed for the lead), which is scheduled to air on April 22 from 9pm to 11pm.

Darnell Martin directed the project.

Gooding Jr.'s character, nicknamed DJ, is a counselor at a youth correctional facility where "the incarcerated girls and young women come from trouble, often violent, backgrounds."

As noted in a previous post, he trains the kids to battle forest fires and assist the public during other natural disasters.

Joining Gooding Jr. in the film are DeWanda Wise, Yakina Horn and Q'Orianka Kilcher.

Long-time readers of this site will recognize DeWanda Wise; she starred in 2 short films we've featured on the site: Nikyatu Jusu's S&A Filmmaker Challenge winning short film Black Swan Theory (photo above), and Darius Clark Monroe's Train. So congrats to DeWanda for what may be quite an awareness boost for her!

And below we get our first look at the upcoming film in this behind the scenes look at it, which includes lots of footage from the film, including DeWanda in action; also, watch Cuba praise her performance.

By the way, Alicia Keys is serving as an executive producer pn the project.

She is a very good actress. She also held it down in a scene with Michael K. Williams last season on "BoardWalk Empire" in an episode called "What Does the Bee Do?"

MacUffin

Props to Darnell Martin (Cadillac Records, I Like It Like That), a very talented black female TV & film director, who doesn't usually get much attention or respect on sites like these.

Nikyatu

YES! DeWanda getting much deserved attention.

Tobias

Congrats Ms. Wise.. Very talented. God Bless.

Laura
