WonderCon offered traffic snarls in Anaheim and a Fox preview of “Prometheus” (June 8). Director Ridley Scott (“Alien,” “Blade Runner”) and writer Damon Lindelof (“Lost,” “Star Trek”) accompanied the showing of the new trailer, which sent the twittersphere buzzing and soon hit the Web. The trailer promises a juggernaut outerspace thriller starring Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace, based on the DNA of “Alien.” Judging from the overheated fanboy response, this prequel could give Chris Nolan’s hugely anticipated “Dark Knight Rises” (July 20) a run for its money. Nolan reportedly just screened his rough cut for Warner Bros. brass.
Also screening at WonderCon Saturday was footage from “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” Tweeted @ScottLudwig: “Timur Bekmambetov footage for Abraham Lincoln is over the top action with his signature style!” While Josh Dickey of Variety wrote: “ABE LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER footage & trailer looked better than I expected. Dark and gothic.”
Movieline’s indefatigable @jenyamato, who also covered SXSW, reported from the Fox Searchlight panel: “Sound of My Voice using “cult” members from movie to address WonderCon crowd, in character. Recruiting! Fun bit of viral mktng writ large.”
