Kevin Kline and Lawrence Kasdan Talk Old-Fashioned 'Darling Companion' (Video)

It is no surprise that Lawrence Kasdan's return to movie directing after years of studio purgatory is not faring well with critics. Given the chance to make the kind of literate, charming relationship comedy Kasdan loves to make ("The Big Chill," "Grand Canyon"), he went ahead and did it. So what if it's old-fashioned, if Mark Duplass sticks out like the contemporary actor that he is, in an ensemble of veteran charmers, from Kevin Kline, Diane Keaton and Dianne Wiest to the great Richard Jenkins? For $5 million Kasdan can do whatever he wants, as far as I am concerned, and hipness be damned.

Truth is, "Darling Companion" is targeted at the Sony Pictures Classics demo of which I am a member. For us, the movie will fit like a comfortable old sweater that should have been put in mothballs but of which we are inordinately fond. See Kline and Kasdan discuss the vagaries of current production and indie downsizing on thier sixth film together below. Are they not charming?
