Los Angeles Film Fest Reveals 3 Gala Screenings Including "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Middle of Nowhere"

The Los Angeles Film Festival (producer Stephanie Allain’s inaugural year as director of the festival) has announced a trio of gala screenings for this year’s upcoming event, scheduled to run from  from June 14 – 24.

And all 3 titles are films we’ve covered here on S&A – 2 of them premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and which I reviewed on S&A then, so you should be familiar with them: Benh Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild and Ava DuVernay’s Middle of Nowhere

The 3rd film is the sci-fi dramedy Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, which Derek Luke has a supporting role in.

Each of those 3 films has distribution and will be released in theaters post-LAFF – June 27, October 12 and June 22 respectively.

As already previously announced, the festival will open with the North American premiere of Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love on June 14.

The festival’s full line-up is scheduled to be announced on May 1. Over 200 films, including features, shorts, and music videos, representing more than 30 countries, are expected to screen this year.

I really wanna see this! I loved the mood and everything about "I Will Follow".

can't wait to see middle of nowhere

Good for Shadow and Act for highlighting Ms. Duvernay's film in the headline – its more than I can say for your parent company Indiewire which purposefully left out this sista's movie from its headline on its article. I only get Indiewire's main site easily on my phone so I read it much more than I read Shadow and Act only for that reason and I have to say that their ongoing bias is epic. Our black movies are lucky to have a place like Shadow and Act.
