Is Louis C.K.’s FX comedy “Louie” in the tradition of Woody Allen? So suggests the ad below, which offers a nod to the opening of “Manhattan” before planting a newspaper in the comedian’s face. But I don’t know that even at its softest, anyone would suggest “Louie” romanticizes New York “all out of proportion.”
C.K.’s city is one in which every moment of beauty (a skilled violinist playing on the subway platform) is balanced out by something ridiculous and repulsive (a homeless man taking off his clothes to bathe right behind said violinist). And as odd as Allen’s characters’ love lives have been, none of them ever got to boink Joan Rivers.
Season three of “Louie” starts June 28th.
