Official Trailer & Poster For Ice-T’s “The Art Of Rap” + New Theatrical Release Date

Official Trailer & Poster For Ice-T's "The Art Of Rap" + New Theatrical Release Date

Ice-T’s documentary (and directorial debut) fully titled Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap, made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and was later acquired by Indomina in a world rights deal.

As previously noted, Indomina did announce that it would release the film in North America on June 8; but I’ve learned today that it’ll actually get a June 15 theatrical premiere, a week later.

In the film, Ice-T engages several of rap’s most influential artists in conversation about the craft of rapping – among them Chuck D, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, MC Lyte, Mos Def, and Kanye West – with the goal being to explore the roots and history of rap, and reveal the creative process behind this global art form… at least, that’s how it’s being sold, but that’s not quite what I got out of it when I saw the film at Sundance; asI already noted in my reivew of it, I went in expecting one kind of documentary, and instead got something entirely different.

But you can read me review of the film HERE to get more of my minority POV.

A brand-spanking new trailer and official poster have been released ahead of the theatrical premiere, and both are embedded below; and I must say, if I saw this trailer before I saw the film in January, it would’ve gotten me really pumped to see it, because it’s a damn exciting trailer, but, again, this isn’t the movie I saw in January.

Maybe, to start with, they’ve re-edited it and cut out all those slow-motion shots of Ice-T walking down streets with his sunglasses on, looking cool and tough.

Still, congrats to Ice on the pickup and the official release date.
