Pam Grier's Autobiography "Foxy: My Life In Three Acts" Optioned; Screenwriter Hired To Adapt

I remember when the book was published in mid-2010, and I posted an entry about it possibly being adapted into a feature film; Pam Grier herself said there was interest in it, and, like almost every other iconic real life black woman considering a film on her life, I recall her saying that she would love for Halle Berry to play her in the film.

Of course! Maybe Halle Berry should just do a string of biopics, starting with Aretha Franklin’s.

Via a press release, it’s been announced thatmovie rights to Grier’s autobiography Foxy: My Life In Three Acts – in which she talks about, amongst other things, her early relationships with Richard Pryor, Freddie Prinze & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and how Richard Pryor put cocaine on his penis before having sex with her – has been optioned by Imprint Entertainment (Twilight, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief).

Eunetta Boone (who’s worked primarily in TV) has been hired to adapt the book into a screenplay.

The rest of the story:

’Foxy’ succeeds at a stark impression of Grier’s courage and inner strength without the use of rose-colored glasses. Imprint Entertainment looks forward to bringing this triumphant story to life,” says [Michael] Becker [of Imprint]. Grier, the iconic African American female sex symbol and action star from the 70′s, launched an era of films that became known as “Blaxploitation” movies – boasting predominantly black casts for black audiences. 40 years later Grier is an internationally celebrated award-winning actress who is beloved by all audiences. As Quoted by Director Quentin Tarantino while promoting his 1997 film JACKIE BROWN “Pam Grier might have been the first female action star.” Pam Grier not only opened doors for African American women but for women of all races. Imprint Entertainment is currently in postproduction on upcoming crime thriller PAWN starring Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta, Nikki Reed, Michael Chiklis, Common.

So there ya have it; when will we actually see this? Who knows? Biopics about black public figures are plentiful these days, and the majority of them are currently in limbo. So we’ll see…

I hope they do consider a new upcoming actress. Id love to audition for the role. I get Pam Grier comparisons often. I think mainly because of my natural hair, the way I come off in my images and certain facial features. The challenge to bring to the life of a such a pioneer in female action stars would be a dream come true. Find it interesting people are penning Paula Patton and Beyonce to play her in this post. While the physical resemblance would match up, Paula lacks the sass and attitude and Beyonce lacks the acting ability. Vivica would be ideal if they had this biopic talks 10 years ago she possesses both. Halle is popular but not a good fit. Salli Richardson would be good option to consider because of physical resemblance but honestly I think they should consider someone unknown. We only have a limited number of Black actresses and they can't be the go to all to play various Black women in history, entertainment etc because of that limitation or because they are the popular choice.

THERE IS KNOW DOUBT SHE IS THE FIRST FEMALE ACTION STAR.YES WE WOULD LIKE TO SHE HER STORY TOLD. BUT HALLE BERRY WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST CHOICE .YES MAYBE EVEN BYONCE. BUT YOU SOMEONE WHO CAN GET GRITTY,KICK BUT AND TAKE NAMES AND I THINK VIVCA FOXX STRONGLY NEEDS TO BE IN THE RUNNING.

Joy Bryant maybe? Zoe Saldana?

I think Toccara is a sound choice. Can she act? Beyonce no, she gave us her best Pam Grier impersonation in Goldfinger and it lacked something. I agree a slightly unknown, talented but upcoming actress should be the choice. Sallie Richardson and Paula Patton could work.

If anyone plays this it has to be Salli Richardson – resemblance is uncanny and she's shown she can act [with attitude if needed] although she'd probably need to wear an afro wig.

Donella

I read her biography and I agree that her life story and contribution to the entertainment industry would make a great feature film.

Pam Grier is a pionner in so many ways, she deserves careful casting. Havent we learned from the casting mistakes in the past not to go with a Halle, a vivicia, such obvious over rated choices. Pam deserves a unknown black woman who is photogentic, has sass, beauty, class, obvious assets and a woman who would soak up the acting opportunity like a professional. I 've always thought Toccara Jones would be the ultimate choice. Can you imagine anyone else?

Are you kidding me? This has Beyonce Knowles written all over it . . . if she can bone up on her acting skills. And I think she probably can.

The question is who would be great at playing Pam Grier?

i swear this is a case of ESP. I was just having a movie conversation with a buddy of mine last night (who's italian btw) and we're both chuckling about (the sexiness of) Foxy Brown, how Pam bust my cherry in the "celebrity crush" category as the first on-screen woman i fell in love with, and how wonderful it'll be if she got a biopic of her own. And now this… it's really great news! Good post Tambay.
