UPDATE: Check out the new US trailer below.
Magnolia Pictures will release Robert Pattinson’s “Bel Ami” in US theaters on June 8 and on VOD May 4. The film, directed by Declan Donnellan, is already in UK theaters. The synopsis and trailer are below. Less-than esctatic early reviews are here; it’s currently at 45% Rotten with Pattinson’s smoldering leaving critics unsatisfied. Here’s our review from Berlin.
“Bel Ami” costars Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, and Colm Meaney. Pattinson’s appeal is largely to women and teen girls; he faces huge opening weekend competition from Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic “Prometheus,” starring Michael Fassbender, DreamWorks’ “Madagascar 3,” Sundance and SXSW hit “Safety Not Guaranteed” and Toronto’s “Peace, Love & Misunderstanding.”
In this sexy retelling of Guy de Maupassant’s classic tale of blackmail, manipulation, and social-climbing, set against 19th century Paris, Pattinson stars as the young and very ambitious George Duroy, who discovers that his unadulterated passion and seduction skills with influential Parisian ladies (Ricci, Thurman, and Thomas), above-all, is the fastest and most effective way to the upper echelons of the society he so desperately wants to control.
