Filmmaking couple Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones are back after their relationship dramedy "Breaking Upwards," with another one that bears a lot of similarities, except for the fact that this time they're releasing a film via a studio (Fox Searchlight). What a difference three years make!
The trailer for their latest venture "Lola Versus," written by the two and directed by Wein (like "Breaking Upwards"), premiered today. In the film, indie darling Greta Gerwig looks like her winning self as the titular Lola, a woman trying to come to terms with turning 30. The fact that she just got dumped by her rock star boyfriend ("The Killing" star Joel Kinnaman) right before their wedding isn't helping matters.
Lister-Jones, who headlined "Breaking Upwards" opposite Wein, takes on supporting duties this time around as Lola's wisecracking best friend. Debra Winger also makes an appearance in the trailer as Lola's mom. Nice to have her back.
"Lola Versus" opens June 8, and premieres at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival in a few weeks. Go HERE for Indiewire's profile of Wein, back before "Breaking Upwards" opened.
