Well here it is ladies (and gents). After teasing us with a mere (but very tantalizing) 16-seconds of footage, the full trailer for Steven Soderbergh's all-star, male stripper comedy "Magic Mike" has finally made its way onto the web. Despite the potentially lurid subject matter, the preview's shock factor lies in the fact that it looks sweet, and not all that raunchy.
That said, fans of Channing Tatum's "Step Up" moves and upper body have plenty to be happy about. But if you were hoping to see Tatum's co-stars Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and "True Blood" werewolf Joe Mangianello, get down and dirty, you won't see it here.
What the clip makes clear is that "Magic Mike" is a romance, in which newcomer Cody Horn seems destined to breakout in a major way as Tatum's feisty love interest. Fans of Soderbergh will recognize his brand of lensing, but will probably be surprised by the mainsteam nature of the whole thing (Rihanna's "We Found Love" plays over the majority of the trailer).
Back in January when Soderbergh's "Haywire" opened, Indiewire talked to Soderbergh about the casting. "Look, we were looking for the right people who had some buzz behind them," he said. "They also had to be able to do what we needed them to do and willing to do what we needed them to do. But I mean, we got really lucky. All these guys were great and have brought something specific to the movie. There’s nothing like shared potential humiliation to bond. These guys bonded very quickly. As soon as they started rehearsing these numbers, you rally around each other because it’s so embarrassing."
"Magic Mike" opens June 29 in theaters nationwide.
