Book Excerpt: The Twitter Diaries by Georgie Thompson & Imogen Lloyd Webber

Media personalities Georgie Thompson, one of the faces of Sky Sports out of England, and Imogen Lloyd Webber (yes, she is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s daughter), an MSNBC commentator, have teamed up to author the newly released The Twitter Diaries, a book told all through DM tweets.

The description:

The Twitter Diaries tells the story of pen pals for the 21st century. Two parallel lives separated by an ocean but united over a social network. Tuesday (@TuesdayFields), a sports reporter and Stella (@StellaCavill), a men’s shoe designer, are Brit 30-somethings who are introduced in NYC on NYE by a mutual friend, a notorious transatlantic TV presenter. They strike up an instant bond.

Over the next 365 days, @TuesdayFields and @StellaCavill put the world to rights, one tweet at a time. From Melbourne to Monaco to Magaluf, the girls flirt and fall out with sportsmen, movie stars… and TV presenters. And then there’s their mothers…

December 31st of the same year and @TuesdayFields and @StellaCavill meet again, for the first time since the last time. A lot can happen in a year. It turns out just 140 characters can change everything.

Here an excerpt:

@StellaCavill New York calling London. Did you get back to Blighty OK?

@TuesdayFields Are you really 100% sure only we can read these direct messages, Stella Cavill?!

@StellaCavill Positive, Tuesday Fields. So… did you get home alright?

@TuesdayFields Seriously… no one else can see these tweets?

@StellaCavill Seriously.

@TuesdayFields Direct from me to you, and you to me?

@StellaCavill Correct.

@TuesdayFields So just to be clear…

@StellaCavill Tuesday! Why do you think they’re called ‘direct’ messages?

@TuesdayFields Well I hope you’re right, for both our sakes…

@StellaCavill How revealing do you think our twitter conversations are going to end up being?

@TuesdayFields Well, you never know, we may end up dishing the dirt on all sorts. Our innermost thoughts on love, life, the universe…

@StellaCavill We may… but not this morning, I’m preoccupied with a hangover.
>> At least our heads are bound to be better than @PM_TV’s. I thought he was never going to stop drinking… or talking.

@TuesdayFields If you hadn’t accidentally on purpose spilt the Cabernet all over that TV exec he might still be banging on about his follower count.

@StellaCavill Boring @PM_TV.

@TuesdayFields How to stop him reaching a million…
