Cannes 2012: Lee Daniels Is Trying To Keep "The Butler" PG13; Listen To Full "The Paperboy" Press Conference

As Lee Daniels' The Paperboy, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival today, continues to divide audiences who were present for the screening, I thought you might like to listen to the full press conference the cast and crew of the film held immediately after today's morning premiere.

I listened to it – all 45 minutes – and found it entertaining and revealing; Daniels is his usual open and brutally honest self, which I actually appreciate. And the cast discuss everything from their reasons for deciding to act in the film, to working closely with Lee Daniels, the choices they made for their characters, expectations, and more.

Daniels expounds on the matters of race, sex and where the two intetwine in the film, as well as how his own personal trials regarding those two issues, and the baggage carried over from his past films, informed some of the decisions he made in The Paperboy.

It's good stuff to listen to I think.

And what might he do for an encore? He's all set to direct The Butler next, and he said during the press conference that "I’m trying to keep it [The Butler] PG13 which is not easy for me." So I guess you've heard it here first: The Butler will likely be a PG13-rated film, which I think would make it Lee Daniels' first non-R-rated film.

slb gave it a mixed review. On one hand, calling it absurd, but on the other hand recognizing with a good script, Daniels can be a good filmmaker. Unfortunately, he co-wrote the "The Paperboy" script. Either way, based on the description (not the bad reviews) I probably won't see this.

I heard the movie is horrid.
