Watch: Tense & Funny First Clip From 'Kill List' Director Ben Wheatley's 'Sightseers'

After pushing audiences to the brink last year with "Kill List," director Ben Wheatley has returned with something he promises is "lighter" — though, of course, that could mean anything. And while we're still yet to see what will unfold in "Sightseers" — the details of which have been kept closely guarded — this first lengthy clip hints that it will be another dread-filled outing, though not without some laughs to leaven the mood.

Starring Steve Oram and Alice Lowe, the film follows a couple who head to the countryside for a holiday only to encounter tourists and other irritants that push them over the edge. Largely improvised, Oram and Lowe make quite a duo here, he an imposing figure, while she seemingly appears to be more fragile and vulnerable. And as this clip bears out, the pair are masters at manipulating an innocuous encounter to their advantage. It's both thrillingly tense and also bleakly funny, promising another unique venture from the rising writer/director.

Edgar Wright executive produced the pic that will premiere in a special screening as part of the Directors' Fortnight sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival. Watch below. [Mr. & Mrs. Wheatley]

I will stick to this first verrrry promising photo and avoid any clip until it's released. Hey with Wright backing up and a Cannes debut it might get a descent distribution in france (not even sure Kill List was released at all).
