Well, the Warner Bros. campaign for “The Campaign” is underway. GET IT!? Yes, that was supremely lame, but we can pretty much guarantee that Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis will pair up to deliver more laughs than that in their upcoming effort.
The film follows long-term congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell) who commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, and a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about.
Two new posters for the movie have been unveiled, showing the constituency Cam and Marty are going for, with the former showing himself as a patriot and the latter as the everyman. Director Jay Roach already delivered one campaign oriented movie earlier this year, with the electric, based-on-a-true-story drama “Game Change” about the behind-the-scenes machinations of the McCain/Palin ticket in 2008. But this obviously gives him a chance to play things much looser.
Co-starring Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Katherine LaNasa, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd and Brian Cox, “The Campaign” goes to the ballot box on August 10th. [Yahoo]
