Broadway Musical Adaptation Of ‘Sister Act’ Will Close This Summer

Broadway Musical Adaptation Of 'Sister Act' Will Close This Summer

It was just announced that the acclaimed Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire (with Blair Underwood as “Stanley,” Nicole Ari Parker as “Blanche, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Stella, and Wood Harris as “Mitch”) would end its run on July 22, and not the August 19th date it had originally been extended to.

And anyone is set to come to its end, as it was just announced that the musical Sister Act (produced by Whoopi Goldberg and which currently stars Raven-Symoné) will close on August 26, after a 16-month run.

The show opened on Broadway in April 2011 with Patina Miller starring, receiving 5 Tony Award nominations last year, including best musical and best actress (but won none).

Ticket sales for the $10 million show are said to have been weakening since January, and the show will reportedly close without making its investment back! Ouch!

Although, the show’s producers hope to it will eventually turn a profit for them from its North American tour that begins in Toronto on October 2nd.
