Connor Ferguson, Canada’s Small-Town Transgendered Prom Queen

Connor Ferguson, Canada's Small-Town Transgendered Prom Queen

Some unprecendented hometown pride came my way today thanks to this story on the CBC about a Connor Ferguson, an 18-year-old transgender woman who was voted Prom Queen at her high school.

The story was posted all over Facebook, and I got to do a very fun double-take when I started reading it: It was my high school!  Trenton High School, situated in a shitty, conservative military town in between Toronto and Montreal. The same one that 10 years ago simply coming out as gay — let alone as trans and then winning Prom Queen — was essentially a sentence of torture.  So I just wanted to give a massive shout-out to Connor Ferguson for being such a beautiful Prom Queen and a clear pioneer for my hometown, and to the folks at Trenton High School for clearly progressing well beyond what I ever expected of them.

Congrats girl, <3 you deserve this. you show everyone that THS has respect for every individual no matter what. (: so proud to say I went to school there.
Your beautiful Connor, don't let anyone bring you down.!

People should be able to do what they want, i saw a girl wear a Boys Tuxedo at the prom and no one had any issues with that at all.
