George Clooney and Grant Heslov have come on to the Weinstein Co.’s “August: Osage County” as producers. They join producers Steve Traxler and Jean Doumanian on the film adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play.
Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are set to star for director John Wells, who worked with Clooney on “E.R.” in the ’90s.
“It’s already a great cast and great material and I can’t think of anyone better than Harvey to put this all together,” said Clooney. “And we're particularly excited to work with our dear friend John Wells. It’s such a terrific group and we feel honored to help bring it to the screen.”
Production is scheduled to begin in the fall.
Clooney and Heslov have recently produced Heslov's directorial debut “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” “The American” and “The Ides of March,” and they have Ben Affleck’s “Argo” hitting theaters in October.
