J.J. Abrams just doesn’t do conventional does he? The writer-director unveiled an early look at a Klingon from his upcoming “Star Trek” sequel during this past weekend’s MTV Movie Awards but, rather than putting it on the MTV website or premiering it in footage during the show, Abrams decided to purposefully leave it on a television in the background during a skit.
First spotted online, many had written it off as left-over footage from the first film, but MTV has since reported it as a “first look” with HitFix’s sources confirming the image “wasn’t included in the clip by accident.” It’s not the first time we’ve seen Abrams’ take on Klingons though, as they did in fact feature in “Star Trek” but were left on the cutting room floor, living on in a deleted scene on the Blu-ray. That scene showed them interrogating Eric Bana‘s Nero and revealing a lot of his backstory and plans that obviously wouldn’t have fit in with the mystery surrounding Nero’s motives in the final film. You can check out that clip below along with a blow-up of the Klingon from the clip.
