Len Wiseman's "Total Recall" lands August 3 with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale (Wiseman's wife and "Underworld" star), Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy and Bryan Cranston. When comparing the new trailer to the 1990 original with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the visuals are quite impressive. Both trailers feature the "If I'm not me, than who am I?" line, but Farrell's acting is leagues above Schwarzenegger's and should add a more relatable dimension to this take on Philip K. Dick's sci-fi adventure short story. Beckinsale and Biel look good and kick ass, but we're guessing that's about it.
We're more excited for Farrell's "Seven Psychopaths" reunion with his "In Bruges" director and fellow Irishman Martin McDonagh, arriving this November. He's also lined up for Akiva Goldsman's "Winter's Tale" and has Niels Arden Oplev's "Dead Man Down" in post gearing up for an April 2013 bow. He co-stars with Noomi Rapace, who worked with Oplev in the original "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."
Though Farrell's been working consistently since the late 1990s in studio films ("The Recruit," "The New World," "Miami Vice," "Horrible Bosses," "Fright Night") and indies ("A Home at the End of the World," "Crazy Heart," "Ondine," etc), none of his recent films have made good use of his real talent. We're hoping the next year serves as a comeback of sorts.
