Project of the Day: "Finding My Dad's Memory"

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

“Finding My Dad’s Memory”

Tweetable Logline:

A filmmaker follows his father’s journey back to life after a traumatic brain injury exploring addiction, family, and memory.

Elevator Pitch:

Due to a traumatic brain injury, my dad does not remember anything that happened in the home we lived in for over twenty years, or golfing, which he did regularly for fifty years. This film will follow my dad’s return to these places he cannot remember. What is memory? Has your memory of something ever been replaced with a photo or video? Do you remember it from the camera’s lens? This film explores the relationship of the captured image and memory.

Production Team

Director/cinematographer/editor: Tim O’Donnell (PBS-WGBY’s George: Wrestling with Resistance, 2010 International Roxbury Film Festival selection)

About The Production:

I started this project almost a year ago in an Intensive Care Unit room. It was in the first few days that my dad was in a coma that I took out my iPhone and started to record him. As he began recovering, I knew the story I was capturing could be much more than just an impulsive decision to document my comatose father, in case this was the last time we saw him. A year later I am making this film to help my dad remember his old life and restore his memory.
