With a holiday coming up next week, it’s been a pretty slow news week and the morsel making the rounds that Ryan Reynolds has joined the brewing “Highlander” remake was likely too good to resist. But alas, it’s not true.
Sources close to the project tell The Playlist that while there have been some talks (first reported back in May), he has not signed on to the film. So quell your excitement/outrage accordingly. The movie has been developing for a while now, with Justin Lin originally slated to direct before he exited last year, with “28 Weeks Later” and “Intruders” helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo since taking the helm. Not much has been known about what exactly this remake will entail, except that it has a script from “Twilight” scribe Melissa Rosenberg that has been rewritten by “Iron Man” writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. And this spring, Fresnadillo teased that his approach would use “the materials of the universe” of the original film to help tell the tale.
So put Ryan Reynolds on hold for now — nothing is official. He’ll be seen next in “R.I.P.D.” opening on June 28, 2013.
