Tropfest, the world's largest short film festival based out of Sydney, Australia, has announced that it is teaming with Tobey Maguire ("Spider-Man") and the mobile photo and video sharing app Mobli (of which Maguire is an investor) to produce the Tropfest Micro Film Festival.
The Micro Film Festival, which will run through the Mobli app, is now accepting submissions to its Tropfest Micro Film Festival channel through January 15, 2013. Submissions must be 70 seconds or less and must contain audible laughter. The submissions will be put up for public vote with a People's Choice Award winner receiving a to-be-announced award; the juried Grand Prize-winning micro film will receive $10,000 and a trip to Sydney to attend Tropfest Australia 2013, where their film will be screened.
“What is most exciting to me about having designed and facilitated this partnership with Mobli and Tropfest is that the festival we’ve created engages everyone, and not only filmmakers,” said Maguire, a Mobli Investor. “We’re all storytellers—and with a visual platform like Mobli, we’re not just being given access to watch films at a festival, but to be active participants, no matter who we are or where we are in the world.”
