Watch: Trailer For RZA's 'The Man With The Iron Fists' Looks Like A Blood Soaked Good Time

It was probably inevitable that RZA would eventually strike out and make his own martial arts movie. The Wu-Tang Clan‘s resident beatmaker, chess genius, philosopher and more has made no secret of his love for the cheapie chopsocky movies he watched growing up from the very moment Enter The 36 Chambers dropped and blew minds. But that it would turn out be as outrageously fun-looking as it does here makes it all the more a pleasant surprise.

Presented by his pal Quentin Tarantino (remember, RZA played a vital role on the soundtracks to the “Kill Bill” films), and co-written by Eli Roth, the major points this movie gets are for being completely aware that it can have fun and not be so ponderous. And thank God for that. Because it allows RZA and the the rest of the cast, Lucy Liu (“Power belongs to no one until it is seized through sex and violence.”), Jamie Chung, Pam Grier, Cung Le and Russell Crowe as the villain (nice) have a ball chewing the scenery with some nice one-liners, while the action looks to be gloriously excessive, bloody and eyeball-removing fun. RZA has clearly not only studied kung fu flicks, he’s pushing the genre into new territory visually.

Featuring new songs by The Black Keys, Kanye West, My Chemical Romance, Wiz Khalifa, Wu-Tang Clan and RZA himself, it sounds like this will have a soundtrack worth tracking down as well. Hitting theaters this fall, “Iron Fists” looks be a popcorn diversion from the punishing awards season race. Watch below. [IGN]

gonna watch this movie just 'cuz of My Chemical Romance

Sure you can't judge just a trailer and all. Still I beg to differ with Kevin when he uses the word "pushing the genre into new territory visually" except if it means Sommers/Bekmambetov territory (or even Paul W.S. Anderson). Actually it seems to me he's going back, much like the post Hero (2002) Wu Xia pan is, except that instead of bland poetry and respectability he has added the CGI laziness of said american directors. What I really hoped for was a gritty movie a la Lone wolf and Cub… or in something crazier like Chinese ghost story.

I am well aware of it. But why you'd want to make a MOVIE look like a video game is completely beyond me. And when did the Shaw Bros ever have 20 million?

Jake Mulligan [Jake 2]

Eh, you can't judge a trailer. Especially for a debut. Maybe RZA found a way to make all the CGI effects work as texture. Or maybe he's got a script so insane that he couldn't possibly do it practically on $20m.

Jake is obviously unaware of the fact that there is already a Wu tang Clan comic series and video game…

Such a disappointment to see all that Matrix-like CG. Thought RZA would be above that comic book nonsense.

This guy.

This simply looks like a blast. Can't wait. RZA has been destined to do something like this. Good for him.

take a drink every time a Kevin post uses the "chewing scenery" cliche…
