Even though he doesn’t make it onto the Ark, the oldest person mentioned in the Hebrew Bible is getting one of finest actors around to portray him in a film.
Director Darren Aronofsky hit Twitter this morning to reveal that Anthony Hopkins will be playing the role of Methuselah in the upcoming film. While he’s actually only mentioned once in the Bible, in the the Book Of Enoch, his father tells him of the impending flood, and Methuselah works with his grandson Noah to try and convince the people of Earth to return to a life of godliness to avoid God’s wrath. Methuselah sees through the completion of the ark, but died seven days before the flood, with God having promised him he would not die with the unrighteous.
It’s another great addition to a cast that is already looking very strong with Russell Crowe, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth and Jennifer Connelly all on board (ha). Fun fact: Crowe and Hopkins last appeared together in the 1992 movie “Spotswood” aka “The Efficiency Expert” (the former in a very small role). Watch the trailer for that below.
