BET Adds Idris Elba's 'Luther' To Its Lineup (Airing This Saturday)

Smart move by BET, and I applaud it. Even though we've championed Luther here on S&A, and I know a lot of you folks have already watched the series – both seasons – I'm also aware that there's still a large percentage of America (specifically black America) who have yet to watch a single episode, and probably don't even know that the series exists, which is unfortunate.

But with this pickup by BET, it should expand the show's accessibility, and more people will get to know what may be some of Idris Elba's best on-screen work.

As reported by on BET's website this morning, the critically-acclaimed, Golden Globe-winning series (Idris won for his performance) will air in a marathon this Saturday, July 14th, starting at 8:30AM/7:30C on BET.

The website doesn't say, but I'm guessing the marathon will include both existing seasons.

BET thank you!!! this show is the best thing Ive seen in a long while.. we need to support Idris and bring programming like this to OUR channel We dont get much so we have to value and take stock of something that doesnt portray us giggling and dancing all the time. give a venue for our black actors BET support their capabilities and reward their mistakes a a good try .. but get rid of the stereo typical and give us what everyone on every other channel gets. Stop Hiding our greatness..

I am black (100% mom&dad) and I do not like the BET channel but I will be watching this weekend. Great move for BET because the programming they create and produce is so tacky and over the top.

I'm really excited BET is airing Luther. I just wonder if they simply aired as a series if more people would have been reached. It may have giventhe audience to chat with one another and the show could grow. In any case good job BET.

I had never heard of the show until he was nominated. Great show, and agree it should expand its popularity, but wondering how it would fit in with BET's current line up. The network isn't known for having quality television.

Wow…BET is not playin'! I'll definitely watch since I've only seen 2 episodes so far ( I know, shame on me). And @Ashton, you're correct but on the flip side, they're adding viewers and FINALLY diversifying their audience instead of being so one-dimensional. Besides the awards shows, I barely watch BET but I'm excited about the movies they'll be premiering like "Luv" and " Middle of Nowhere." Also, I got my fingers crossed for the new show with TJ Holmes.

Oh No! I love, love loved Luther! I have the season in my archives! Unfortunately, my cable company here in Chicago, Direct TV is dropping BETand all of Viacom's stations, because they now want us to pay extra for them! This is why de-regulation is so bad for the consumer. Direct TV and Viacom are trying to gouge us! No more BET, MTV, VHI, NICKELODEON, TVLAND, COMEDY CENTRAL, or any Station owned by Viacom.

Best move by BET since they decided to resurrect the news. You remember the news, don't you? It was that thing that used to air before "Uncut" and "Success in Life with Robert Tilton."

Ashton Morris

I respect the move but I feel that Luther isn't a show for BET audience. But I might tune in to watch Luther because I love the show.

I'm sure more than a few people will turn on their TVs on Saturday and will say, "Stringer Bell sounds different. And why is he sitting in a police station? Is he snitching?"

arnold drummond

Thanks! Just set my DVR to record the marathon, which includes seasons 1 (six episodes) and 2 (four episodes).
