Casting Watch: Jena Malone Set to Play Johanna Mason in 'Catching Fire' [UPDATE]

Lionsgate has made it official: Jena Malone is Johanna Mason for “The Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire.” Johanna is described by Lionsdate as “a female victor from a past Games still in her early twenties, and is one of the youngest, but also one of the most psychologically scarred Quarter Quell participants.”

EARLIER: Malone needs a revival after Zack Snyder’s misfire, “Sucker Punch.” The 27-year old actress has an impressive but imperfect resume that includes “Stepmom,” “Donnie Darko,” “Life As A House,” “Cold Mountain,” “Saved!,” “Pride and Prejudice,” “Into the Wild” and “The Messenger.” It’s wise to choose an experienced actress to play in “Catching Fire” (and third installment, “Mockingjay”) across from Jennifer Lawrence. Newcomer model-actress Zoe Aggeliki was rumored to be a frontrunner and could have had a tough time holding her own against Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen.

Jena Malone kinda more chicky less independent in the sequel, and bit back to younger, but still remember her in something else like The Ruins or The United States of Leland, so we can see.

I'm glad Jenna Malone was chosen over Zoe Aggeliki to play Johanna Mason….Johanna Mason is a very complex character, one that should be tough to play. Malone is far more experienced; I agree, I don't think Aggeliki would be able to hold her own acting opposite Jennifer Lawrence.
