Cheryl Boone Isaacs to Produce Academy's 4th Annual Governors Awards on December 1

Marketing executive Cheryl Boone Isaacs is set to produce the Academy’s 4th Annual Governors Awards. She and production team head Don Mischer will share duties for the December 1 event, where the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Honorary Award will be presented.

Governors Board member Boone Isaacs is currently the head of CBI Enterprises, where she has been a PR consultant on Oscar-winning films “The Artist,” “The King’s Speech” and “Precious.” She was the president of theatrical marketing for New Line Cinema, and before that executive vice president of worldwide publicity for Paramount, where she orchestrated successful campaigns for “Forest Gump” and “Braveheart.”

Boone Isaacs broke ground as the first African American woman to be named to the Academy’s Board of Governors and to run a studio marketing department.

My first impulse after reading this is to ask if she was related to Ashley Boone, the first black man to hold top marketing positions at UA, Fox, Columbia, MGM and other studios. In 1979, when he was president of distribution and marketing at Fox, Mr. Boone was the highest-ranking black executive in the movie industry. He worked in the industry from 1964 until his death at the age of 55 in 1994.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs is his sister. They served as governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the same time.
