Drafthouse Films Partners with Distrify for 'Klown,' Maximizes Profits Through Incentivized Sharing

The Alamo Drafthouse’s distribution arm Drafthouse Films is partnering with digital distribution platform Distrify, which allows viewers to share content via a direct purchase link. Drafthouse’s canoe comedy “Klown,” from Danish director Mikkel Nørgaard, will be available for rent on Distrify July 27, the same day as its theatrical and VOD release.

Director Terry Gilliam has already seen the advantages of Distrify with the distribution of his short film “The Wholly Family.” By self-distributing through the Distrify platform, Gilliam was able to get monetized placement of the film on online media outlets, and link shares from fans of the film. Because sharers of Distrify content are elligible for affiliate revenue, there is increased incentive to share the content as much as possible, which in turn maximizes profit for the film.

Drafthouse COO James Emanuel Shapiro calls Distrify the “cutting edge of digital film distribution…it allows our partners and friends to host our films that we both love dearly and us all to profit in sharing these films.”

“Klown,” an international hit comedy out of Denmark about a guy who kidnaps his girlfriend’s preteen son and takes him on a wildly inappropriate, taboo-laden canoe trip, is already set for a Hollywood remake. Director Todd Phillips and actor Danny McBride are attached to the Warner Bros. project.

This is a great use of affiliate deals. All filmmakers need a website and a platform – this allows us all to benefit from the wonderful world of modern moviemaking.
