First Official Poster For Sam Raimi’s ‘Oz: The Great And Powerful’

First Official Poster For Sam Raimi's 'Oz: The Great And Powerful'

The Internet movie blogosphere hit a pretty embarrassing low a few weeks back when a terribly scanned black-and-white “first look” image of James Franco in “Oz: The Great And Powerful” started making the rounds. It was, at best, equivalent to the quality of a shaky cell phone pic, but it seems everyone is really jazzed for this movie. Either that, or it was a slow news day. Anyway, Disney has gone ahead a dropped the first official poster for the movie, but sorry folks, no Franco here.

Directed by Sam Raimi, and marking his first film since 2009’s “Drag Me To Hell,” the re-telling of the familiar story follows small-time magician Oscar Diggs (Franco) who pulls one flimflam too many and finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard – and just maybe into a better man as well. This movie actually shot last year, and given that it’s not arriving until next spring, we’re expecting a pretty big special effects display at the multiplex.

Co-starring Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff, “Oz: The Great and Powerful” arrives on March 8, 2013. Full poster below.

The geography looks magical. I just finished the "Wicked" series and loved that series. I know this isn't the same thing, but still…the idea of Oz and getting the whimsical feel is important.

While everyone says how horrible "Alice in Wonderland" is, the film made something like a billion dollars worldwide (if I am counting my zeroes right).

Way to lose me at the very top of the poster with "From the producer of Alice In Wonderland." Then it lost me even more with the tag "From the visionary director of the Spider-Man trilogy." Alice In Wonderland was unbearable to watch and Spider-Man 3 was so terrible, they had to reboot the franchise just five years after its release. Stupid.

'visionary director of Spiderman trilogy'>> is this because of the new Spider-Man movie?

Yep…pretty awesome poster……Alice In Wonderland was bland and mediocre as fuck…so why do people feel the need to post that as if that'll grab one's attention? Plus there was nothing "Visionary" about Spiderman 3!!!!!! Spite me all you want… know I'm right!

oogle monster

This is how more people should make teaser posters. But must be announce "the producers of Alice in Wonderland" as if it's such a big deal?

WOW, this poster has got me so excited, it's unreal how awesome it looks. Can't wait for James Franco to own this role as Oz. With his personality and talent it should work, plus the rest of the cast is A+ too.

Sam Raimi, I'm trusting you to work some magic on this one.

As teaser posters go, that's a pretty great one, I have to say.
