IMDB announced today that its hugely successful “Movies & TV” apps for iOS and Android have each been downloaded 20 million times, making the grand total 40 million downloads. Visits to the mobile optimized website have exceeded 150 million per month since the beginning of March 2012.
IMDB also launched discovery, personalization and social features for the app, which will make the mobile version of the website more like the full IMDB experience: Message boards, check-ins, similarities, film locations and soundtracks are now accessible from your smartphone. Diehard commenters, rejoice!
The website’s founder and CEO Col Needham stated that these additions reflect steep customer demand: “Given that IMDB.com’s message boards generate more than 2.5 billion page views annually, it’s no surprise that mobile-optimized message boards were our #1 customer request.”
