'Metropolis,' 'The General,' 'The Blue Angel' & More From Kino Lorber Now Free on Hulu

As of Thursday, fans of Kino Lorber’s eclectic catalog can now watch its movies and shorts for free on Hulu.

Kino Lorber has made available 35 of its 700-plus titles during limited windows on Hulu or its subscription service Hulu Plus, with plans to expand the number of films in the coming months. Among the films included in this launch are restored editions of “The Blue Angel,” Buster Keaton’s “The General” and Fritz Lang’s “The Complete Metropolis,” as well as “Le Quattro Volte,” “Momma’s Man” and the French thriller “Army of Crime.”

The documentaries “Fela Kuti: Music is the Weapon,” “Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould,” “Two in the Wave” and “Videocracy” are also included in this first batch, along with 18 of Keaton’s short films.

“Our presence on Hulu will allow us to present our selection of classic and art house films to a new audience seeking an experience beyond the latest blockbuster,” said Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber. “We spent quite a bit of time working with the Hulu team and are excited about the pipeline of top-tier releases planned for the immediate future.”

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Dogtooth” is on tap for August.

Hey Richard – you might want to check in with Hulu. I just clicked over to watch The General which began with a notice that the film was being brought to me commercial-free by Internet Explorer followed by an intensely annoying Internet Explorer ad. Then 11 minutes or so into the film, the another ad. About 20 minutes in, another ad. Then I gave up. It's great that these films are getting a wider audience and I wish you the best of luck with the program but you're doing business with some pretty sketchy folks there at Hulu. You'd think they'd do better after 4.5 years. Better keep your eye on them.
