Venice International Film Critics Week Announces 2012 Lineup; New Cassavetes Film to Close

The lineup for the 27th International Film Critics’ Week — the 69th Annual Venice International Film Festival’s independent section — has been announced.  The Critics’ Week will open with the Israel/Palestine-French co-production “Water” from directors Nir Sa’ar, Maya Sarfaty, Mohammad Fuad, Yona Rozenkier, Mohammad Bakri, Ahmad Bargouthi, Pini Tavger, and Tal Haring. 

Xan Cassavetes’ vampire film “Kiss of the Damned” will close Critics’ Week.  Cassavetes is the daughter of director John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands.  “Kiss of the Damned” Stars Josephine de la Baume, Roxane Mesquida, Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Rappaport, Riley Keough and Anna Mouglalis.  The film stars de la Baume and Mesquida as vampire sisters who interact with the citizens of the Connecticut town they are staying in for the summer.

The following seven films will be in competition during Critics’ Week:

“Eat Sleep Die,” Gabriela Pichler (Sweden)
“The Ideal City,” Luigi Lo Cascio (Italy)
“Mold,” Ali Aydin (Turkey/Germany)
“A Month in Thailand,” Paul Neogescu (Romania)
“She Doesn’t Want to Sleep Alone,” Natalia Beristain (Mexico)
“Welcome Home,” Tom Heene (Belgium)
“Lotus,” Liu Shu (People’s Republic of China)
