"The Canyons" is one of the two buzzed about comeback vehicles for Lindsay Lohan (the other is the Lifetime Elizabeth Taylor biopic "Liz & Dick"), but you wouldn't know it from the first just-released trailer for the Bret Easton Ellis penned and Paul Schrader directed film. Why's that? Becuase neither she, nor her headlining co-star, porn sensation James Deen, make an appearance in the preview.
What the trailer does consist of are endless establishing shots of Los Angeles, blandly cut together by cinematographer Joey Fantastico (yes, that's his name), that resemble the opening credit sequence for MTV's now defunct reality series "The Hills." At least there's the haunting Dum Dum Girls song "Coming Down" to add some sense of mood to the two-minute-plus affair.
The trailer marks the latest online attempt on the part of the filmmakers to drum up anticipation around the film (which is currently shooting around Los Angeles). It all started with the film's Kickstarer campaign, which resulted in the high-profile casting of Lohan and Deen.
According to the film's Kickstarter page, "The Canyons" "documents five twenty-something's quest for power, love, sex and success in 2012 Hollywood."
