Dr. Dre Taking Producer Skills To TV For Hour-Long Drama On Music Business And Crime

Earlier this year, Dr. Dre, via his relatively young Crucial Films production company (launched in 2007), stepped in to produce a horror/thriller titled Thaw, from a script penned by Vik Weet, based on an original idea by Dre’s production company partner Daniel Schnider.

The story will center on an ancient evil that emerges from the rapidly melting ice in the Yukon.

No word on cast yet. I believe it’s still in the script stage.

Crucial Films, by the way, has a first-look deal at New Line Cinema

But while we wait for that project to develop, Dre will flex his producer skills on TV – specifically, on FX.

The deal between Dre and FX is for a one-hour drama, to be penned by Sidney Quashie, which will center on the intertwining of the music business and crime, set in Los Angeles.

Quashie (whose IMDB resume lists a singel screenwriting credit for an upcoming gangster drama titled The Boston College Fix) will exec produce the project, along with Dre, and his business partner Daniel Schnider.

I guess Dr. Dre is just stacking money now. He's made a lot of money with the Beats headphones. I see people wearing them everywhere. They are a status symbol of sorts in the under 30 set.

Not a fan of this guy. It's very interesting how he built a career on glamorizing crime and violence in his music, yet when that lifestyle became a reality at Death Row Records, he ran like Usain Bolt. Now he wants to make money glamorizing violence again. SMDH.
