Icon Productions CEO Mark Gooder has jumped to the Weinstein Company to take on the role of president of acquisitions/Australian operations just as the fall festival season is about to begin. He will first be on the ground for the company in two weeks at the Toronto International Film Festival, where TWC has traditionally been active on the acquisitions front.
With Gooder joining the team, acquisitions execs Dan Guando and Negeen Yazdi have been promoted to senior VP of acquisitions and senior VP of acquisitions and co-productions, respectively, while Jennifer Malloy continues as director of acquisitions and co-productions to fill out the team.
“Mark has a proven history for smart and strategic choices when it comes to choosing quality titles, and Dan and Negeen have been responsible for building the incredible slate we have,” said TWC COO David Glasser. “There is so much to come from our studio, and this team will undoubtedly lead us there.”
Gooder launched Icon Australia in 2000 and held the CEO role at Icon Productions beginning in 2006. He also oversaw Icon Productions’ international sales company and UK distribution company while running Icon in Australia. Among his acquisitions during that time are “Gosford Park,” “The Queen,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Crash,” “Precious” and “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
TWC has “Lawless,” “The Master” and “Silver Linings Playbook” hitting theaters this year, with the latter two films also screening at Toronto.
