Ordinarily, the idea of turning Lego into a movie is something that would make our stomach churn and eyes roll back into the far recesses of our head, but there is something about the approach "21 Jump Street" helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (along with Chris McKay) are bringing to the movie. The plot is pretty inventive, centering on Emmett, a regular everyday little Lego figure, who is mistaken as a MasterBuilder and suddenly becomes part of a group on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing everything together. It's basically an excuse to run through a variety of Lego worlds, and a pretty good one at that, and with Chris Pratt taking the lead and Will Arnett stopping by as Batman (awesome), we now hear of two more voices pitching in.
Deadline reports that Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Banks are lending their pipes to the project. Lucius Fox's dulcet tones will be behind a character named Vitruvius, who we presume is the famed Roman architect and engineer circa 1st century B.C. Or not. Meanwhile, Banks' role is being kept under wraps. And oh yeah, remember Channing Tatum was being positioned to possibly appear as Clark Kent? He's absent from this latest update, so perhaps his schedule couldn't be worked out (though really — is it that hard to show up in a recording studio and knock out a few lines?). At any rate, this continues to build nicely.
However, you'll be waiting a while just yet. "Lego: The Piece Of Resistance" won't hit theaters until February 28, 2014.
