Oscilloscope Acquires LAFF Comedy 'It's a Disaster' Starring Julia Stiles, David Cross and America Ferrera

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Todd Berger’s comedy “It’s A Disaster,” which had its premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June. The specialty distributor plans both a theatrical and digital release early next year.

Julia Stiles, David Cross, America Ferrera, Erinn Hayes, Rachel Boston, Kevin M. Brennan, Jeff Grace and Blaise Miller star in the story of a weekly couples brunch that turns unhinged when a bunch of dirty bombs go off in the city. Jeff Grace, Kevin M. Brennan, Gordon Bijelonic and Datari Turner produced the project, which was made in conjunction with Vacationeer Productions and Cactus Three.

“‘It’s A Disaster’ is a real gem, one of those great discoveries that you don’t come across very often,” said Oscilloscope’s David Laub. “Todd has combined a perceptive, Woody Allen-esque relationship comedy with a unique take on the apocalypse film, and in the process enlivened both genres and created something highly original and entertaining.”

Laub and Dan Berger of Oscilloscope negotiated the deal with ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.

Oscilloscope has recently released “Shut Up and Play the Hits” and “We Need to Talk About Kevin.” Upcoming films include “Samsara,” “Hello I Must Be Going” and “28 Hotel Rooms.”

This film getting distribution of *any* kind is worth celebrating, but Oscilloscope is a particularly good match. They appear to be on a mission to scoop up as many distinctive voices as possible. We need more distributors with that mindset.

I'd say between this, Shut Up and Play the Hits, and Tchoupitoulas, Oscilloscope is having a pretty damn good year. Looking forward to it.

I wasn't aware Oscilloscope was going to be around in 2013 with the way the company has been run since the Spring. Good luck.
