Piling on Kristen Stewart

Piling on Kristen Stewart

It’s been a couple of weeks (in fact almost a month) since the world learned that Kristen Stewart made out with her Snow White and the Huntsman director and caused a total gigantic meltdown in the Twisphere.  The initial piece I wrote The Public Shaming of Kristen Stewart got more comments than any other piece I’ve ever written.  Clearly, people are interested in this.

While I’m sure that Kristen Stewart hoped that her public apology was going to help the problem go away it is clear that this thing is here to stay at least for the near future.  Not even the Olympics got her a break, and now that those are over and we are going full tilt into the political season, we need a side show and Kristen Stewart has given that to us wrapped up in a big pouty bow.

Too bad the poor girl can’t just hang out in her bed and cry and eat ice cream.  She’s got to get out and promote not one, but two, movies this fall.  One at Toronto – On the Road, a small indie, and then the big behemoth, The final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn Part 2.

I feel bad for her.  I know she made out with an older married man but she is no war criminal.  It seems that people are just now piling on her just because they can.  It’s getting mean and it looks to me like people are enjoying watching her squirm.  This is a town that loves to build up its stars when they are making money, but is even quicker to tear them down when that gravy train is threatened.

This indiscretion is not only effecting her personal life, it is also effecting her career.  There have been many conflicting reports that her role at the lead character in Snow White and the Huntsman will be excised from the sequel to build a story on the Huntsman.  The Hollywood Reporter launched the first salvo with a piece two weeks ago declaring that Stewart had been dropped from the sequel.   The shit hit the storm so bad that Universal chief Donna Langley had to issue a public denial saying: “We are extremely proud of Snow White And The Huntsman and we’re currently exploring all options to continue the franchise. Any reports that Kristen Stewart has been dropped are false.”  But what did happen was the A-List writer David Koepp departed the franchise because as he said yesterday to Movieline all his ideas about the movie involved Kristen Stewart’s character a “but then they wanted to explore a different thing that I had no ideas for.”

And by the way Rupert Sanders is not being publicy shamed as Stewart is since Universal bought the property 90 Church: The True Story of the Narcotics Squad from Hell for him to direct.

So this shit show continues to plague Stewart with only Jodie Foster standing up for her.  I’ve been hard of Foster for her loyalty to Mel Gibson.  But even though I disagree I admire that she stands up for her friends not giving a shit of what people think of her.  She wrote a piece in the Daily Beast telling people to basically leave Kristen the fuck alone.

Foster goes after the tabloids that suck your soul in her defense of Stewart and talks about how she would no doubt not be who she is today had the tabloid world existed when she was a kid growing up as an actor.

Just to set the record straight, a salary for a given on-screen performance does not include the right to invade anyone’s privacy, to destroy someone’s sense of self.

Aside from Foster who played Stewart’s mom a decade ago in Panic Room, no one has really stood up for this young woman.

And people — people who were fan of hers — are just piling on.  The Twlight fandom is full of vindictive and petty people.  It is shameful and they all need to get over themselves.   We live in such a woman hating culture that there are now t-shirts that say: “Kristen Stewart is a Trampire” and “We Hate Kristen” and “Kristen Stewart F***ing Sucks” and “F*** Kristen Stewart.

It’s my guess that the fans never really liked Kristen Stewart.  They liked the fabrication of the relationship of the two actors playing characters in the movie who happened to fall in love off screen.  They liked her when she was happy with Rob Pattinson even though they denied their relationship to the public (which helped add to the frenzy.)  Maybe if they would have just come out and said that they were together and then broke up things might have gone a bit easier on her.  But it is the fact that she cheated on Rob who has been deified here amid reports that he is no saint himself.

None of us know what went on in their relationship.  But now it is look like it is over.  The tabloids are stalking her even more and now I’m guessing they’d be ok with her not smiling in pictures.  Kristen Stewart does not deserve to be the Hollywood punching bag for the next four months until Twilight comes out.  She’s earned money for a lot of people and she is just a kid.  I think the people fueling these stories should take a look in their own houses and their own daughters and sons and figure out how they would feel if their kid were constantly subjected to this mess.

But most of their kids did not choose to be actors and maybe now Kristen Stewart is regretting making that career decision herself.  This whole thing makes me so sad.

I think a lot of this hatred is coming from jealousy also. Jealousy at her fame, her wealth, her handsome boyfriend, the preconceived notion that a grand life has been handed over to her on a gold platter for which she shares no credit. As if the fact that she is a multimillionaire is an excuse for the constant bullying she is facing. I have been following KS since her Panic Room days and she has never tried to pose as "America's sweetheart". She never posed as a demi-god. She never asked people to idolize her & put her on a pedestal. Now she has made a mistake. Big deal! People make mistakes. It is between her and her boyfriend. We go to movies to see her acting. She is an entertainer, not a moral guide or a teacher. People should come to their senses and stop this nonsense. See is 22 yr old for god's sake!!!

A Twihard, yes

I love Twilight and all the actors. Yes, I love Kristen too. AND I STILL love her. I've seen the photos and I've heard the stories about her and Rupert. Yeah, I was surprised. And yes, I do feel bad for Robert. But for some reason, I love her too much to even """hate""" her. I expected that people would hate her and and bash her. It's absurd and very unnecessary. But yeah, what can we do ey? They are just narrow minded people. Oh and the media should stop talking about this. It's been 4 months for god's sake! Get over it.

i am sick and tired of crap from these sites and fans who dont like kristen ok we get it and we get you dont want robert pattinson to be with kristen because she isnt good enough for him every kind crap you all have wrote screamed cheater home breaker mention robert and you all get paraniod Ilove kristen I think she is a good actress and will go see her films I like robert hope he does well inhis career but love kristen need to stop this hate on her let her alone

It's the old double standard, of course. Charlie Sheen cavorts with hookers, trashes hotel rooms and carries on like a maniac in public, but he gets away with it because he's a man. In fact, Charlie will earn more than $90 million from his new TV show.

Kristen Stewart slept with the married film director Rupert Sanders. Using the term "made out" repeatedly is inaccurate. She is not a victim. Both parties are fully culpable. That said, this is not a unique circumstance. Many other actors, directors, producers, cameramen, etc have had affairs on set that have resulted in quiet scandals, relationships, and even "secret" babies.

Ms. Stewart and Mr.Sanders were reckless in meeting in public and were caught out. Massive recriminations ensued. Kristen Stewart has bourne the brunt of this as she is the female lead in a wildly popular, multi-million dollar book/film series. These are very high stakes and maybe Ms. Stewart was never comfortable with that mantle. Ms.Stewart did herself a harm in making a public apology to her boyfriend, Rob Pattinson. Publicly acknowledging the affair in such way places her behavior on the table to be judged even more than the photos did.

This will blow over. She will keep working and the focus will shift back to her work, which is the important thing. This scandal has just removed the expectation of her feigning the "America's Sweetheart" starlet ideal. She never really fit that mold anyway.

Why do you blame women fans of Twilight for what the press and media establishment are doing to Kristen? All these accusations of hate and hating are just a bunch of childish drama. The female audience is not obligated to like anyone. They don't hate Kristen they just don't care for her and that is their privilege. At first Kristen looked like a girl they could relate to which is rare for a Hollywood woman. Due to her own behavior she now looks like the standard Hollywood tart who is banging her way to the top and as a result many women no longer identify with her. She is a multi millionaire so I am sure she will be fine.

ihave never seen so much hate for a young girl she is a actress she cannot walk out side her door without paps sticking cameras in her face and shouting rude and personal things about her and rob you people need really take agood look at yourselfs and you cant see any wrong my hope that women have learn.d from history well really despair you will ever change please leave her alone and get a life of you own

Amy Robbins

Cannot believe you linked that Jezebel tripe in your piece Ms Silverstein. You do know that site was sent that rubbish by a sociopath fixated on Pattinson, right? A little prep next time perhaps.

Melissa, this apologist nonsense is beneath you. And me.

Move on kids. Haven't you heard? Tsunamis and hurricanes are claiming people'e lives. Poverty exists, as does sexual slavery, GOP corruption, disease and all kinds of suffering around the world. Jump out of Kristen's life and start living your own. She'll be fine. She has millions in the bank and staff running around her 24'7. Victimized? Not so much.

I don't care what the haters and trolls have to say about Kristen I am still in her corner. She'll hang on while this firestorm passes and will get her life back. She's a human being, she made a mistake, she's not perfect. Anyone who rips her down is a hypocrite for who among us has never made a bad judgment call? It's not like she murdered anyone, she just kissed the wrong guy. I'm not making excuses for her, what she did was wrong on so many levels, but the way the haters are crucifying her (not to mention making money off these t-shirt sales) doesn't make them morally superior. In fact, it make them even more inferior because at least she's upfront and trying to make amends; these idiots are cackling with delight all the way to the bank while proving their hypocrisy. Her career will recover and she'll put this mess behind her while they will always remain a pathetic bunch of losers.

Stewart has been punished. Enough. Move on and get on with your own perfect lives where no-one ever fucks up and no-one regrets a damn thing.

Eliza that is completely an excellent argument. You have hit the nail on the head we as females so easily blame the girls involved in such things whilst leaving the men unscaved that is unfair.

I'm sorry Eliza, this isn't about pitting Sanders against Stewart. That's the PR game being played right now. It's about dishonesty, cheating, and now, totally blatant rewriting of what went down so Stewart can portray herself as a victim. No-one is buying that crap.

Kristen, Liberty and Pattinson are all Rupert's victim yet he got a free pass since he still has his familiy and his career has not been negatively affected. Rupert, as a married man and father of two children had a legal, moral and ethical responsibility not to initiate any personal relationships with Kristen or stop it if Kristen was the one who initiated it That responsibility was 100% on Rupert. He is the one who failed his family and Kristen. Every one expects and demand maturity and moral soundness from a 22-year girl but gives a 41-year old married man in a position of authority over the 22-year girl a free pass. Many people don't want to hear that Kristen is only 22 but that is an absolute valid argument because at that age we are not yet fully mature as oppossed to a 41-year old. It appears that Liberty and Rupert's marriage had cracks and have had worst problems according to statements that Liberty and Rupert's father made. If his marriage had problems going after a 22-year old subordinate is the least thing to do. Rupert destroyed Kristen and Rob's life and betrayed and humiliated his wife and children. Liberty has to look real deep inside herself and realize the kind of disgusting man she married that goes on and destroys so many so that he can get what he wants.

Everyone knows Stewart slept with Sanders. The PR coming out of her camp is an attempt to rewrite those photographs into something they are not. It's shameful damage limitation that flies in the face of Stewart's repeated claims that honesty is a quality she holds as most dear. People would have more respect for her if she told her camp to stop what is plainly a strategic move. Obviously I agree that Stewart is not a war criminal. But she is a liar, a cheat and now a cheap hustler for the sake of her career. Nothing to cheer here.

I am the mother of a teen girl of 16 who is very invested in Kristen to say the least. Now up until recently I will admit I thought her name was Kaitlan and have never seen a twilight but one thing I do know of this girl is that since my daughter has become a fan she has become so much more comfortable in her own skin. Now as much as I'd like to credit that to my excellent parenting I have to admit that miss Stewart has had a very big part in that. My daughter has always been quite Tom boyish and quiet but when she began high school this became a real problem, she started trying to behave as the other in girls did but I could see she wasn't happy or comfortable being loud and wearing all the clothing that's in fashion ( not that there is anything wrong with that) then one day she came out to go shopping not a scrap of make up in sight. Her hair was back to it's natural curl that had for so long been flattened under the hair straightener. I was shocked she had not left the house without being fully made up for 2 years. After this small things shed been trying to change slowy came back in to play, she give her real opinion to her friends and not just the popular one. Overall it was like a light light bulb had gone off in her head. She was so much happier. I didn't know what caused these changes but I was so grateful! One day when I went into her room I found her diary on the bed shed been writing in it nonstop. I opened it to find qoutes form Kristen about being yourself, about trusting in your heart, about not judging other girl by their level of femininity and other all about loving yourself because there is so much too love. This girl who I don't know as brightened my daughters world and made her much more comfortable in her own skin and for that I will always be grateful. Maybe it's just the mother in me but I just want to hug this girl and tell as Jodie foster wrote this shall pass and when it does you will have beautiful young women like my daughter waiting to pick you up on the other side as you are loved.

I am a Kristen Stewart fan. This whole thing does not change that for me at all! Many people seem to hate this girl but why? did she do something to you personally? Maybe you should remember how difficult it is to be a young girl let alone with the world watching and get off your high horse you don't have to like what's gone on here but should a picture of one kiss destroy a young girls career? No fucking way. She is the reason twilight made the money whether you like the film or not and they just chuck her under the bus. Let's not forget she's most of the reason SWATH was so successful. To everyone comparing her to Jesse James, Arnold schwatever or Charlie sheen she did not have a child with the man! She is not marrried! He is much older too. Also in a position of power. Did she fuck around with dozens of people? nope. Did she deny it once caught? No. Did she beat or threaten Robert pattinson? No. The fact people are using the "well that's what you get when your famous card" bull get over yourselves she has been shamed and racked over the coals more than any guy who has done this and it's Hollywood for fucks sake this is not the first time or the last. She's young. She made a stupid hurtful mistake and she's been more than punished for it. Sorry but the director is older and married he should be the one who has more blame placed upon his shoulders if anyone but even in saying that it's not our p,ace to attack either of them as it's NOT our relationship. Could I also point out that we know nothing of kristen and robs relationship so who's to say that she has been unhappy for awhile? Maybe she wanted to end the relationship but there's a lot of pressure on her not to? Maybe she's lonely? Maybe shes 22 and got caught up in something dangerous and romantic but most importantly secret that can be very alluring. We don't know the inner workings of this girl so lay off imagine how her mother or father or her three brothers are feeling.

A person's morality is really their own, and though I think cheating on a relationship you've agreed to make exclusive is terrible, Stewart herself isn't terrible. She is no R (I can never remember her first name) Hunter, who is unapologetic, cowardly and vindictive towards those who would judge her immoral behaviour.

Stewart shows, I think, with the naiveté of her exposed apology that she is not calculating (perhaps to her detriment) and that both the infidelity and the remorse were genuine expressions of a young, inconsiderate person.
Having said that, pieces like the one above are harmful to the cause of equal rights. Don't complain that the world is being mean to Stewart – yes the world is invisibly skewed to the male perspective. Reveal it, explicate it, don't harmlessly whinge about it. Also the article is misleading in its bias. From the photos one can infer that there was more than 'making out' happening and that the relationship was sensually intimate. Minimising the truth to make an argument against those who skew the truth weakens your position and drains you of credibility. Which is a shame, because the slut-shaming of Stewart really is a subject for review, especially from a blog which purports to advocate women in film.

Action is the key, and Stewart herself needs to act now. Yes, the scandal doesn't reflect well on her, but everyone has done something shameful in their past. She seems a very strong and smart woman, and the cheating was most likely due to her youthful hubris than anything else.

So lady, stand tall, look straight at the misogynists who want to stamp you with an A, and show them you are more than what anyone learns of you from a paparazzi photo.

I agree; the whole thing just makes me sad too. I wish that there were more people INSIDE the Hollywood community who would stand up for each other publicly in a meaningful way. Thanks so much for sharing the Jodie Foster piece.

Where were your articles of defense for Tiger Woods, Jesse James and Aston Kutcher against the piling on for cheating on their significant others. Tiger Woods lost almost all his sponsors, his career took a nose dive and the poor man had to give a big press conference apology to every national and international news outlet. Don't remember any 'feel sorry for Tiger' defense articles. I guess because he has a Y chromosome and isn't part of the sisterhood. Sexism indeed.

I think many are missing the real issue of Kristen's public scorn. You have a girl who has chosen at every turn to say to all F- you. She is known for her nasty attitude and to expect people to respond in pity now is hypocritical. Just as she had the right to tell them where to go, verbally and constantly with her middle fingers, they have the right to say 'right back at you.' It is about mutual respect. Had she been a bit more well mannered, I think she would had gotten a break from media. So if Jodie wants kindness for her? Perhaps she should begin with teaching the young star first to actually be able to act with anything, followed by how to be polite because when you lack both, in the world Hollywood press? You offer no reason for them to not give you right back what you made them endure.

Nobody here has ever f'd up at the age of 22. Thank God I didn't have cameras following my every move when I was that age. Anybody here perfect? Probably not. Think about it.

I wonder if the author of this piece realizes that Robert Patterson is a homosexual? Check out the blind gossip website there is a blind item specifically about Kristen and Rob's fake relationship. It is sad that for a couple of years Kristen and Rob had to pretend to be a couple just to cover up the fact he is gay. This faux relationship is BS.

I think a lot of audiences are consumed wIth Kristen being the same as Bella. They are having a hard time separating the character from the actress. The way they see it bella cheated on Edward. I believe you're right that if they made their relationship public from the get go the break up wouldn't be nearly as bad.

I think you're right that for many of the fans, it was really more the Twilight characters they loved than the "actors" themselves. For the rest of us, however, the backlash against Kristen Stewart feels justified on some level because she is frankly a terrible actor and yet she was constantly being lauded as the next big thing. I don't like her and won't watch her, but I never really would have paid much notice if not for the demented Twitards. They made me actively hate her, and they've finally shut up for five minutes. I might actually get around to feeling sorry for the girl now.

Kristen is not a kid, she is an adult. Other than that I agree with what your article. The hate for Kristen has gone too far (though many of the fans still defending her are not helping because they are doing the same to Liberty Ross what Kristen's harshest "critcs" are doing to her. Some are even blaming Robert for her cheating or accusing Rupert of forcing her). Even though I think she's vile for cheating with a man whose wife who worked with her and who had nothing but nice things to say about her, I can't help but feel bad for her. Not only because nany are acting like they were the ones she betrayed but also because it's affecting her career but not Rupert's. He should be receiving the same conquences career wise as she is. It's disgusting that her career may be severely damaged because of what she did while his will likely improve.

People (including the fans of her's who are denial about her cheating) need to just accept that she made a mistake and focus on the problems in their own lives.

I am a member of the Twilight fandom – I used to be a proud one, now not so much. I've been a supporter of Kristen's throughout this entire "ordeal". I've lost friends for it, no problem cuz I am in no need of being associated with the people who have been calling her names, and to be honest, believing anything that has been presented as fact as of yet. Yes, I've seen the pictures in question but to me they don't say anything. There has never been a video – and in the past, one has always surfaced – which further makes me believe that those pictures are a conjecture of what we are supposed to believe. Not of the actual events that happened. It is a shame that she has to live through this time. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Movie stars have become commodities, they aren't treated as human beings, what does that say for society in general. I wish we as a society would change – the need some people have to be voyeurs in the lives of famous people, or infamous ones too. Not every fan of Kristen's turned on her, if anything, I became even more of a supporter. She stirkes me as an intelligent, level headed individual and I firmly believe she will come out of this fine – although I can't imagine how she wouldn't be jadded, however, my heart hurts for her that she had to go through this at all.

I'm a part of that Twilight fandom that has been mentioned and granted, while not all of us have jumped on the "Hate Kristen" bandwagon there is a HUGE chunk of it that has and it's true what he has said…. A lot of them are vindictive and petty. I've said from the beginning something about the whole thing seemed weird. I'm a huge Kristen fan. I always have been and I always will be. I find it absolutely unbelievable that people that called themselves FANS have turned their backs on her. Her TRUE fans are still there and always will be. We pay to see her act , we don't pay for her to let us in on her private life. What I find absolutely ridiculous is she's being raked over the coals by so many people for what she supposedly did , as if they've never in their life made a mistake. I wish people would realize she's just as human as anyone else. I've said this from the start but if it was ROB that had "Cheated" This wouldn't be that big… All the response it would get, ESPECIALLY from fans would be " Oh well it was bound to happen" or "Oh wow" but NOTHING like this would happen. There's been something fishy about the whole thing right from the beginning . What I hate most about the whole situation is , while kristen is being raked over the coals by everyone, RUPERV (As we like to call him) is getting away with it and hiding. Ridiculous! Kristen's TRUE fans will be there no matter what and really in the long run that's all that matters… I for one am REALLY looking forward to seeing her at TIFF in two weeks…

The campaign "have pity on the poor KStew" not seem to work well in light of comments …. lol hey KStew PRteam, look fot athers arguments than "she's just a kid", "she's naive … blah blah blah .. it does just irritate people.

oups, my comment was for her interview for Little White liars, i think i posted it in the wrong place!. :p

this girl is just unbearable of smugness and pretentiousness! but who she thinks she is? Ingrid Bergman? Meryl Streep? she's just ridiculous and appalling, she really believe well placed to criticize the actors who go to acting schools and keep working their skills? not sure with her "abilities" she would be accepted into one of these schools! Who she think she is for making fun of people who organize charity balls or receptions? at least these people are doing something concrete to help others, it's not like her who said years ago that she will help runaway teens and so far has done nothing! she is so full of herself, so egocentric ….. it's just awful!I don't understand how a charming boy who seems to be intelligent as Rob Pattinson could fall in love with a person so ridiculous, it's because he is weak, he likes being abused , humiliate? has problems with self-confidence? I do not understand. Love may be blind, but not completely stupid!

I feel like there's a double standard here for sure. If it had been him that cheated there's no way the backlash would have been as severe or gone on as long

Smart-Mouthed Winston

Don't try to go easy on her now, Silverstein. Many readers didn't know a thing about it before you shone a spotlight on it. You directly had a hand in Kristen Stewart shedding at least one more tear.

It’s interesting you give the reason for writing this follow-up article –‘because people are interested.’ This is the rationale behind the existence for tabloids, paparazzi, and others who scrutinize the lives of celebrities and unfortunately they appear to be correct. I don’t feel yet another ‘defense’ of Ms Stewart reflects well on anybody. It is no different to fans, Ms. Foster or anyone else projecting their pain onto the situation. We don’t know what she feels, and nor should we be entitled to, but it might help if she or her team issued a statement other than a very public apology better made in private. Addressing some of the other issues raised here – it is not misogyny that casts the glare on Ms. Stewart rather than Sanders, but the reality she is by far the bigger star. Her name sells and brings hits to sites. Except for this event, his would not — an inequity not of sex but of status. On that topic, there is little public sympathy and championing for Mrs. Sanders, by any of those crying sexism. She seems to be conveniently absent from arguments, perhaps because her presence might remind the public that one woman appeared to think very little of another. Ms. Stewart’s action may not be called misogynistic, but it hardly celebrates sisterhood.
It’s astonishing you even mention the article about Mr. Pattinson. Based on accusations by a fan, is this worthy of serious consideration? Follow a link in the article regarding his supposed attempt at a tryst with a married baker because he called to thank her for making cupcakes after consuming said cakes at a cast party. On the baker’s site there is a brief mention of his call and how delighted she was to receive a thank you. Heady, salacious stuff it is. Jumping on the bandwagon of insinuations against Mr. Pattinson in defense of Ms. Stewart is pretty low, and only serves to suggest if he had been indulging in obvious and regular escapades, she could have ended the relationship long ago, with justification, rather than choose the same.
I doubt, by the way, the shift in Universal’s priorities was motivated by the affair, though it may have served as a convenient excuse. Financing remains far more important than sexual misbehaviors and drives basic decisions made about sequels.
I don’t believe Ms. Stewart should be subjected to any more scrutiny from media or fans than she has already received, but doubt it will stop until after the last Twilight movie is out. I’ve been more disturbed by the descent into tabloid bottom-feeding by all sections of the press, including some which I had thought had ‘standards,’ until this occurred. The need to make a buck affects more than just t-shirt vendors in these difficult economic times, it seems. Even those writing articles decrying the public humiliation of the actress are not prepared to stop doing so themselves.

I am still a fan of Kristen and I refuse to turn my back on her,she and Rob are both human beings but they are being treated like caged zoo animals and my God at the horrible behavior that Kristen is being subjected to is just over the top and uncalled for shame on all of you self rightous ppl and since when are you living a sinless life and the last time I checked we all can fall into temptation and sin even taking a pen home from work is still stealing and no different then any other sin out there but how many of you would admit your bad decision if you were caught? none because you wouldn't want all your skeletens exposed to the world think about it

"The Twlight fandom is full of vindictive and petty people." …Woah, what a disgusting claim to make, Melissa Silverstein. Clearly you need a better grasp of reality, as many people OUTSIDE of the fandom are making nasty comments about her. They did before the scandal, and now the comments have piled on post-scandal. The fact that you are solely blaming the TWILIGHT fandom shows how little understanding you have of this situation. Seriously, the way that you began this article set a low tone for the rest of it. *facepalm* Oh, and I see that you've categorized the Kristen Stewart fans into being those who only support 'Twilight'. I'd say this article says more about YOUR LIMITED PERSPECTIVE, Miss Silverstein, than it does about anyone else's.

The Kristen haters want her dead cold and 6ft under. Keep hating Haters! Karma is a b!#€h. She willl move on and have a happy life ….So will Rob but you Haters will never be happy.

Kristen Stewart acknowledged her action and apologized. People can question the motive but it seems pretty clear and straightforward. Am I surprised that Stewart turned out to be susceptible to a human weakness? No. Am I going to judge her for it? No, I will not because judging her doesn't improve my life one way or the other. And while Stewart may not be the most easy subject for some to warm up to, the reaction to her "sin" is pure overreaction. Just a week earlier, a man went into a theater and killed over 10 people and injured over 50 more who just wanted to watch a movie. That should have our attention, our judgment and our action, not the private matter of 22 year old actress.

I think the reason why people are pilling it on stewart is not only because she's a women but also because she had this too cool for school attitude. I mean she wasn't like this bubbly actress like jennifer lawrence or emma stone. Alot of her interviews she would seem awkward and dettached and lets be honest she hates twilight and hates the rabid fans. So when this came out of course people jumped down her back. I feel bad but at the same time I don't, yet it would be interesting to see what would have happened had it been another actress like the latter i named previously would we have cared as much?

You are doing like that terrible comediant… I forgot his name… that one who uses Kristen name to make a poor joke about (do you put the joke on your post? I will not read this again just to find this information)… to promote his own film… that one that I don't know the name of the movie he was promoting… Ah, forget it.

Indiewire, your question of whether or not we feel bad for Kristen Stewart seems difficult to answer, as we're not amongst those who were directly affected by her actions with Rupert Sanders. But I'm growing tired of the repetitive headlines concerning the scandal, whether they're distinctly supportive ("STOP THE BULLYING!") or critical. It should be noted that ALL articles in response to the scandal – whether they're 'for' or 'against' Stewart – are merely fuelling the gossip.

What I will say, is that I think the constant "she's an unmarried 22 yr old who made a mistake as do many of us" line being spewed out is a huge misconception. She was mature enough to be living with her long-term boyfriend (Pattinson), and is deemed mature enough to accept and discuss movie roles considered to be mature. Thus, I think the disgusted reactions to her infidelity are understandable, and I certainly don't agree with those who say that the director (Sanders) is getting none of the blame. Of course he's accountable for his actions, except he's not as widely known as Stewart, and thus the media focus more on her. — Unlike several journalists, I DON'T SEE THIS AS A SEXIST ISSUE. I think that tabloids simply respond to the public acknowledgment of who Kristen Stewart is, whereas Sanders is primarily known as her 'Snow White' director.

…On the other hand, I was strongly moved by her public apology, which by far and large addressed the depth of her feelings for Robert Pattinson. It was an extremely personal declaration by an extremely private person in an extremely private relationship. I truly hope that people have acknowledged the significance of that. Under intense scrutiny, Pattinson has recently responded to questions from talk-show hosts with class and dignity and he's respectfully concentrated on 'Cosmopolis' discussion.

All in all, the personal relationships between Robert and Kristen, and Rupert and Liberty, are entirely their business. It must be very difficult for all of them to privately deal with their emotions when the situation was so publically revealed and addressed. I do not think that the fans should try to contemplate how Kristen will personally handle things, given that they primarily know her through her movie roles. Many of her fans immediately dismissed the scandal, based on their intent to think the best of Kristen. People took notice of what Jodie Foster had to say in regards to the matter and her personal feelings towards Stewart. Melissa Silverstein, you're entitled to your opinion. But as I understand it, your responsibility for Indiewire is to report on her movies, not to scrutinize her personal life or the supposed feelings of the general public towards her.

It’s such a shame you didn’t seek out the real Kristen Stewart fans. We’ve been here from the beginning, we are here now, and we will be here for her as long as she is around. We may not be the loudest and thankfully we are not the most vile, but we are the most sincere, truthful and dedicated. Essentially, we love her for who she is, end of story. She is human, just like us.

The thing about real Kristen Stewart fans (who love and support Rob, as well) is that we have lives, careers and loved ones to attend to. Unlike the bitter and jealous “Rob Only” Rob Pattinson fans, we don’t have time to go from blog to blog spewing hatred about Kristen. Unfortunately for you, Ms. Silverstein, you only looked so far as the vitriol and didn’t dig any deeper.

I guess congratulations are in order because you got the hits you desired.

Please do Kristen and her stronger-than-ever fan base a favor, when she is back and shows the world just how amazing she is (and that will be soon), why don’t you write something that is well researched instead of something that you pulled from the pages of a tabloid. This is a good place to start

This is gone way beyond ridiculous already. This girl is being vilified and threatened on a daily basis. The media and fans should start to be held accountable for the horrendous treatment of this young lady. When are we going to start to realize that this type of bullying is no longer acceptable. I fully understand that she apparently "cheated" on Mr. Pattinson and unfortunately along with Mr. Pattinson comes some of the most looney fan base I have ever seen. If she was caught in a compromising position with someone while dating Joe Smith this wouldnt even be a blip on the radar for these crazy women. But they, along with the media are the ones that are fueling this story and making it into some type of mob mentality. When will people realize that enough is enough. I truthfully hope that Ms. Stewart gets through this with a small bit of sanity intact and does realize that she does have alot of true fans and we are not some overly obsessed "cougars" that covet her. We are sane minded people that will support you in your career. Keep your head high and dont doubt yourself.

This piece would have been much more interesting had it not been littered with swear words and grammar and spelling mistakes.

lol excuses, excuses… I wonder if the shoe was on the other foot and Rob Pattinson was caught cheating on Kristen Stewart and they had 50 pictures of him rubbing against/making out with a married lady in public, if media/fans would stick up for him too? Me thinks no!

@Filmchick – Neither Rupert Sanders OR Kristen Stewart ever used the term affair. That term was adopted by the media. Stewart used the term 'momentary indiscretion' Sanders apologized for causing his family pain. Neither admitted to anything remotely close to an 'affair'. But the word 'affair' is much more salacious with nastier implications I will ask this question again, where is the video? Multiple paparazzi followed these two for 'hours' and we got 8 lousy pictures that are considered compromising? It seems as if the media has lost it's ability to use logic in the face of a juicy scandal. This situation reeks – in every way. From the way the pictures were obtained, to the treatment of Stewart, and the attacks on Pattinson. All the while Sanders more or less skates and his wife is now walking red carpets.

wow….. and now we're blaming Rob? It's like nobody wants to admit what Kristen did was horrible and they're doing anything to divert blame to Rob when he was the innocent part. seriously, just no words….

It's really sad that you linked that crap from jezebel. That shitty article made up by some crazy kristen stewart fan e-mail. She's a well known a Rob hater and always making up stories about him.

Well, one of the reasons people are still piling on her is because she isn't a real person: she's "KStew," which even Indiewire's thumb sketch jump to this page called her. Let's be for real: even in our society women don't count. Look at how when rape and a possible childbirth are discussed, a rapist is mentioned, a "child" who should not be punished is mentioned, but not the woman. I linked to page regard Pattinson's alleged dalliances, and if they are true, and I have no way of knowing such, this guys has gotten around and may be the one reason that Ms. Stewart's stepped out. Of course, she's the bitch-ho-slut, but not the the guy with an outdoor plumbing problem. Jodie Foster, as indicated by this posting, is the only person woman enough to step for this person who, in this posting, has been called a "woman" and a "kid." I've only seen Ms. Stewart in two pictures, and I didn't even recall that she played Foster's daughter in "Panic Room." I don't have a dog in this fight, but this frenzy trashing says more about her torments — Hollywood, pseudo-fans, and tabloid chasers — than it does about her. Unfortunately, she has to live with the consequences of a publicly known all too human indiscretion.

She is being bullied for goodness sake it is a classic case of it. Mean girls need to shut their pie holes and start worrying about themselves! She made a mistake and has to live with the consequences as everyone else does. However the media storm surrounding her is ridiculous as she did not do what so many politicians get famous for. Good grief people, if bullying in schools is so bad, why do we allow it to run rampant in the media? She even did a really good indie film under the name of Speak that deals with bullying. Leave her alone and Robert Pattinson as well.

Why the pity party all of a sudden? Surely KStew didn't ask for it. She's richer than the majority of the population and can probably get whatever she wants and has. She wanted a married man, well looked like he couldn't get enough of her and risked his marriage. She wanted RPatts and had that boy wrapped around her pretty finger. I bet if she snapped her fingers, he'd be crawling back. For his sake I hope he doesn't fall for hard for her again since she obviously wasn't happy with him. Probably just kept him around to please the crazy Twihards. She will step out on him again, just watch and see.

Sean P.

Oh good grief, it's another same story of HW actors stepping out on the other. This one had legs because Bella wasn't supposed to cheat on Edward. Now millions of pathetic lonely women feel so bad for poor Edward. Twihards are so pathetic and stupid. No wonder they're laughed at by the media and public

She's loved by people that matter in HW and will be fine. Sure she should've broke up with the boyfriend before humiliating himin front of the world, but I'm sure she's learned by now. If your guy isn't satisfying you, break it off first before you play with another guy. Oh, and make sure he's not married either.

Forget Pattinson. Where is the sympathy for the Sanders children and and their mother? KStew's betrayal to them was not as bad as their father and husband, but that doesn't make her a good person or someone deserving of sympathy. His children and wife weren't strangers to her. She worked with them for many months and yet she still chose to engage in behaviour in a public place. After relentlessly promoting herself as different than all those other fake Hollywood people, no less.

She's more than old enough to know exactly what she's doing. She wasn't hurting for a job or in a position to be coerced into anything she did not want to do. And yet people still make excuses for her and talk about how everyone should feel sympathy for her or "lay off." I'll gladly lay off when people stop insisting that anyone should feel sorry for her. Get over yourselves and save your sympathy for people who deserve it.

She's a shitty actress, shitty at interviews, seemingly shitty public persona (don't know her in private) and now she's in a scandal taking on the shitty part.

Do I think she needs to be vilified? No.

Do I hope this halts her career and stops her from gracing the big screen in quality projects? Yes.

Her insane fan base was what was going for her in terms of big studio projects. Everyone wants that Twilight cash. I'm more than happy to see it take a tumble so she can fade back into oblivion where she belongs.

This post and the comments are complete jokes. Cry me a river. She cheated on her boyfriend and people are talking about it. Am I seeing anyone complain about it when people talk badly about Tom Cruise? No. Should I know scream sexism?

This article was written on a movie site and the author should know how movie business works. If nobody wants to see Kristen on screen then why should Universal keep paying her huge paychecks for more movies? People were interested in SWATH because of Charlize Theron as the queen and the visuals of the movie. Even before the scandal happened the head of Universal already said that they would like to drop Snow White and make a spin off with the Huntsman.

This whole thing is ridiculous. I completely agree with Fan of Film's comment. Many of Pattinson's older fans are completely deranged, they act like his mother yet they have overt lustful urges for him. He is the centre point for their whole life, even the married ones, and they start to panic if they do not have internet access for a couple of hours in case they miss out on any 'Rob' news. They have hate sites dedicated to her where they talk about her all day every day, always negative. They comb through every interview to twist her words and belittle her. They insult her looks which is amazing considering they are no beauties (like really – poor Rob!) They even target her family and friends. I say kudos to Kristen for putting up with their crap for 5 years. She deserves a medal, and Pattinson needs to find a girl who is 100% perfect because god help whoever comes after Stewart. Anybody who gets together with an actor as idolised and deified as him needs skin as impenetrable as steel. It's so embarrassing that women are reduced to behaving like this, all over a guy they do not even know and who would never glance in their direction under any normal circumstances!

Eveything was going good until you had to throw in the slanderous accusations of the infamous lunatic thats been posting their diatribe on every website that would leave it up. Not a speck of truth to it. Does it not worry you that you are acting just like the haters you profess to dislike? Im all for trying to stop the savage hate of a young girl but not at the expense of the innocent parties. And a little fact checking would go a long way in proving your professionalism.

Rob Pattison is not a saint himself? What a world. First people stoned her because of a private matter. WRONG. Now the guy she cheated on is the target, because it seems you can only deffend Kristen Stewart by taking down Robert Pattinson using blind items or anonymous emails as a source. Chelsea Handler just said on TV that maybe he wasn't good in bed. The guy has been classy all the way. Meanwhile, Rupert Sanders is still out there, living his life. Melissa Silverstein, there are plenty of reasons to deffend Kristen Stewart. Attack Robert Pattinson is not one of them. It's as unfair as attacking her.

Fan of Film

Actually it's Pattinson's older obsessed fandom that are doing most of the really nasty attacks on Stewart over this scandal. When she became involved with Pattinson, their intense hatred for her was born…most likely out of jealousy. In their warped minds, this cheating scandal allows them the right to attack her more severely and publicly than ever because they can always attach the "homewrecker" label to her now. When I read vicious comments aimed at Stewart in entertaiment blogs, I question the commenter's mental state more than anything else. These women have serious issues in their own lives that need addressing. Stewart has become their much needed scapegoat. As long as they ignore their own troubling issues, I'm afraid the attacks against Stewart will continue.

Adina S.

I just hope that now she will be able to focus on smaller budget movies. She was always uncomfortable in front of the camera during interviews and I truly believe that of all the in Hollywood who say that being and actor is a job, you go you act you get paid and that should not involve the public taking over you life, she meant it 100%.

I think I pretty much agree with everything except for two things. She does have fans, and Sally's comment has said everything I could probably say on that. I can add though that the fan response from the Little White Lies interview with Kristen is worth looking into. Kristen does have fans and a lot of them. I can't wait till she's back on track with work and I wish her all the best in her personal life. I want her to be happy. I don't want her to be some punching bag and I don't want the scum out there that find it entertaining to destroy her till there is nothing left to succeed. Karma will hit them in return instead. Second part I don't agree with is calling her a "kid". She isn't a kid. However I'm sick of reading in comments for example when people act like because she's an adult now she is not allowed to make bad decisions in life. I don't think I'd want to go near a married man, one would probably get a swift kick to their dick…Or at least that's what I say now, because you don't know what you'll do until you're in that situation.

Totally agree on the bullying situation, it has to stopped. But what media or common folks don't know is that the haters, the so-called angry fans, the angry Twifans, they are not that many out there, they are just really loud and obnoxious. The real Kristen/Rob/Twilight fans do exist, and most of us are not consumed by hate. We were shocked, stunned, depressed (yes, it inevitable really, no one chose to). We look for informations, evidences, analyzing everything over and over, to find out what is really out there, since all media outlets were and still are, fabricating news and sensational headlines. It is true that no one will really know what happened, but most of the fans, that I know, believed it's not what media made it seems to be. As fans we like Kristen for the real person she is, and we still believe in her character, she will get out of this stronger. Just some thoughts : The media provided up to 50 pics of this alleged affair, and insinuated that they spend couple of hours together, and just 1-2 kissing pictures, really? That shows more like an older man pursuing a younger woman, probably against her will, that she cannot handled. Just my opinion, don't put your stake at me. Think about it.

Melissa Silverstein

I would love for one of the fans – and I apologize to you all for the generalization – to write a guest post about how you are still supporting her.

Who is up for it?

I agree that the vitriol being thrown at Kristen Stewart is out of control. And that none of us know the true facts of what went on, and should be careful in forming opinions about it. But you completely negate your own argument by trying to smear Robert Pattinson and other young women in the process.

By linking to a piece of spurious gossip, that has no evidence to back it up, you are guilty of the very thing you scold others about. The site you sourced is not reputable, and is known for snark and gossip. They note in the article that it came from someone who CLAIMS to be a Hollywood insider. And is not. As noted at the end of the piece, the daitribe is from a disturbed individual and cyber stalker who has created and spread thousands of rumors. Not only does she smear Pattinson, but a lot of other young women in the process. Women whose only "crime" was standing near Pattinson in a photo; working with him; or supposedly being seen speaking to him by one individual on Twitter. Many of these tales have been disproved, ridicuculed even, by other more reputable sources.

You say people should look at their own houses and consider how they'd feel if it were their kid subjected to this mess. A fair observation. But doesn't the same hold true for Pattinson? Or the young women indicated in the article? Do you think their parents enjoy seeing their names bandied about in ridiculous rumours, created by a mentally unstable individual? Or created by gossip publications that prints new lies every week, in an effort to sell their magazine?

If you honestly want to defend Stewart against these attacks, and against the sorry business of gossip and innuendo – then you need to start being part of the solution, and stop being part of the problem.

I know what you are saying, so many haters , It seems that they only like her because of rob. I am a fan of both of them and have many friends but since this happened many "fans" left and know bully her encourage to use this T-shirt. But you have to know that there are still a lot of people that will support her and care about her movies in fact millions , real fans that in the premiers that she will go wont let the "ex-fans" to do mean things. I repeat I am a fan of Rob but also Kristen and personal life is no one business to become a bullier. K bye

I really liked this article but I disagree with one thing. She still has fans. People who were fans before and who will be after everything is over. Those who pretended to like her while she was with Rob never really were fans. Just accepted her cos they had to. Also the people who hated her all this time for who she was dating are hating her now and they're the ones making the t-shirts. True fans are still very much supporting her.

There are still fans out there for her! And i'm one of them!

I agree that the attacks on Stewart are ridiculous… she did wrong, she apologized and apparently paid a pretty big price in her own personal life for it. That said… your article references supposed indiscretions by Robert Pattinson which were posted on a blog by a crazy women vocal through social media for her hatred of him and her obsession with Stewart. You should check your facts before posting a link to a blog which is slanderous. By trying to "pass the blame" to Robert Pattinson, you have made yourself as guilty as the rest of the media of sensationalizing this story. He has not commented in any of his public appearances… he has never issued a statement on this matter… why are you even focusing on him. He was not in the pictures. Focus the blame on the married, father of two… he committed adultery. Rob and Kristen are young, not married, not engaged, etc…. get over it already.

The story that never gets written is that her fans are still very much here. When her involvement with the film was written about, Lie Down in Darkness trended worldwide for over a half an hour (all positive tweets from her fans around the world). Her magazine covers are still selling out, Snow White is still making money, when the artistic director of TIFF tweeted that she would attend, it was retweeted 189 times (as of this moment). She has always had hundreds of comments on any post that had to do with her, even before those pictures came out. Her ex-boyfriend's fans are like fireants on any comment board, always have been, but her fans adore her. It may have taken them a week or two to wrap their heads around this, but they are back. The only ones that are no longer fans are the ones that were only fans of her relationship. Those are the best ones to shed anyway and maybe she won't have to live up to other people's ideals anymore.

I agree that there is definitely a sexist double standard to how Stewart has been treated in the media vs. Rupert Sanders (nary a peep of disdain or rage directed towards him. And he's the MARRIED ONE!). Folks obviously needed a reason 2 knock Stewart down a couple of pegs, and this story gave it to them.

BUT… I'm frankly sick of this "she's just a kid" analysis that you and others have been throwing out there. Uh, she's NOT a kid. She's 22. She's an ADULT. And she didn't just "make out" with Sanders. She HAD AN AFFAIR with him. At 22, I was mature enough to know that having an affair with a married man is NOT COOL. If Pattinson cheated on her like the Gawker story suggested (which was so full of conjecture and gossip that I'm shocked they took it seriously enough to post it–but I guess they couldn't resist the page views), then that reinforces the double standard of how men and women are treated in society. But let's not confuse that as a free pass for either of them, shall we? And if they had an "open" relationship, then this would be the time for both of them to own up to it and shut all of this down once and for all.

Should Stewart be metaphorically stoned for this? Of course not. It's crazy the level of hits she's taking in her professional life over this; the hypocrisy on that alone makes my head spin (how many men in H'wood cheat on their wives/girlfriends/boyfriends like we order coffee from Starbucks?!). We all make mistakes, and I agree that Stewart has suffered enough. With that said, I can't get on the "Kristin Stewart is a victim" bandwagon. For someone who tried very hard to keep the press out of her private life, why Stewart felt it safe to publicly kiss Sanders in the first place is head-scratching. Hopefully, the silver lining in all of this is that it will help her make better and more pragmatic personal decisions.
