The Weinstein Company’s RADiUS-TWC has cut a multi-year deal with Netflix to feed its movies to the streaming site beginning in 2013. The arrangement will quickly increase the exposure of content from the new label, which just released its first film, “Bachelorette,” on VOD two weeks ago with a theatrical opening coming in September.
In addition to “Bachelorette,” Netflix will host a crop of upcoming projects, including Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive” follow-up “Only God Forgives”; the political satire “Butter,” which first screened at last year’s Telluride Film Festival; the black comedy “The Details,” which TWC proper acquired at Sundance in 2011 for a package in the $8 million range; and the gambling drama “Lay the Favorite,” which TWC picked up at Sundance in January along with “Bachelorette.”
“We could not be more excited about this partnership,” said RADiUS-TWC co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego. “Netflix is as enthusiastic as we are about bringing marquee entertainment across various genres to viewers on their own terms — when, where and how they want to see it.”
The partnership is a no-brainer for RADiUS-TWC, which has pitched itself as a flexible multi-platform distributor looking to make the most out of a variety of channels on a case-by-case basis.
