DOC NYC will close its third annual festival at the IFC Center this year with Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon’s documentary, “The Central Park Five,” which tells the tale of five teens who were wrongfully imprisoned in the “Central Park jogger” rape case. After this screening, the doc will makes its fall theatrical debut across the country.
In addition, the festival, which runs from November 8th to 15th, announced its extended five-day panel line-up (called “Doc-a-thon”), which features twenty new seminars with acclaimed filmmakers and experts, panels, programmers and returning sponsors. Doc-a-thon’s panel discussions will cover the art and business aspects of filmmaking while also take a look at financing sources, marketing, distribution, legal issues and master classes with leading professionals in the industry, such as directors, editors, animators and composers.
“Whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer there’s a lot to learn about rapid changes happening across the documentary field – in craft, technology, financing and distribution,” commented Thom Powers, DOC NYC artistic director. “Doc-a-thon panels are carefully programmed with the top practitioners in the field to bring filmmakers vital information for keeping current.”
To strengthen the festival’s programming, Mystelle Brabbée, senior programmer for feature-length docs, and Basil Tsiokos, programmer of shorts and Doc-a-thon panels, have been added as two key members. And like before, DOC NYC festivalgoers will receive an “Insider Pass” which gives them access to all the panels, screening and festival events before 5pm at the IFC Center. The pass is on discount for $99 until October 5th and then returns to its regular price of $125.
The festival will have representatives from A&E Indie Films, Abramorama, Argot Pictures, Cinereach, HBO Documentary Films, IFC Films, Impact Partners, Kino Lorber, New Video, POV, Zeitgeist Films, and more.
A full line-up for the festival will be available in early October when tickets go on sale for the individual films.
