Watch: 3 Minute 'The Avengers' Deleted Scenes Features Moody Captain America, Stan Lee Cameo & More

Will over 30 minutes of deleted scenes on "The Avengers" upcoming home video release, at this rate it's all going to be online so you won't have to buy the damn thing (well, unless you want to watch the movie again, which you probably do). So far we've seen more Bruce Banner, Harry Dean Stanton, Loki, Hawkeye and a gag reel but it seems Joss Whedon's longer assembly cut of the movie was a decidedly more dour affair. After the rather grim alternate opening arrived yesterday, a lengthy 3 minute deleted scene has arrived and it's another mood killer.

As Whedon himself noted in the spring, a longer sequence highlight Captain America/Steve Rogers being unable to adapt to this new modern world would be featured, as this appears to be it. Moodily sitting in his drab apartment, he decides to go for a walk where he passes an Acura dealership (PRODUCT PLACEMENT!) before settling in for a cup of coffee with a….sketch pad? Anyway, he gazes up at Stark Towers (unrendered), is interuppted by Stan Lee (CAMEO!) and makes a "wireless" joke. This clip is actually fine, but it's easy to see why it was snipped out — tonally, it's just out of sorts with the rest of the movie, and puts a lot of undue focus on one character who is part of an ensemble. It's a bit out of balance. What do you think?

I remember when this movie was coming out they said the Cap would be the entry point for the audience. Between this and the opening I really sense that they're was a much different more serious movie here that we didn't get cause they went for the "fun" tone over the "life is pain Batman" tone. Both would have worked.

Match not found, Someone have the actual video on different site ? Thanks.

again…..why was this shit left out? this, plus the original opening, in my opinion should of never been left on the cutting room floor!

Great Scott!

I hope Stan Lee asks every waitress who is friendly for her number IRL. Then gets stared at like a creep.
IIRC the Captain America movie shows more than once that he is a decent sketch artist, hence the pad.
Liked this sequence, should have gone in, minus the weird Lee part.

Okay, now THIS is some great stuff. If there's an extended cut, these scenes absolutely gotta go back in. It is vintage Silver Age Captain America, the very essence of the character. (The sketch pad is from the character of Steve Rogers having been long been depicted as an artist in his spare time–in the 80s he even worked for Marvel Comics!)

Badder Wolf

Stan…Rogers?

Plainview

Yeah, these are some unfortunate cuts.

Here's something that I think was missing from the movie (and as far as I remember wasn't mentioned in the still-good article from The Playlist)… not just Rogers having trouble living in 2012 but the fact that he has lost everything and everybody he once new. Maybe the second Captain America will work with this. (PS the waitress actually made it to the final cut of the movie somehow right ?)
