Remember “Butter,” The Weinstein Company’s Tea Party lampooning comedy that unspooled last year in Telluride and Toronto, only to be shelved during awards season? Well, the film’s finally making its way into theaters on October 5th, and by the looks of the just-released trailer, “Butter” looks like a crowd pleasing winner.
Jennifer Garner heads an impressive cast that includes Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman and Alicia Silverstone, as the wife of a former butter sculpting champion who takes a stab at mastering the craft with aspirations for political office in mind. Her chances at taking over her husband’s title are threatened when an African American girl named Destiny (Yara Shahidi) comes to town armed with a winning smile and butter carving talent.
Harvey Weinstein made no effort to hide the fact that Garner’s character was inspired by Republican Congresswoman (and former Republican presidential candidate) Michele Bachmann, who he invited to co-host the Iowa premiere of “Butter” last Fall. Whatever the deal, Garner seems to be having a blast with the role of a conservative housewife with a close relationship to God, and an even closer one to butter.
