‘When Was The Last Time You Saw Bin Laden?!’ (Bigelow Returns To War In Teaser For ‘Zero Dark Thirty’)

'When Was The Last Time You Saw Bin Laden?!' (Bigelow Returns To War In Teaser For 'Zero Dark Thirty')

It’s been a little while since we last wrote anything about this film.

Our last post was an announcement that Harold Perrineau had joined the cast of Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden movie (aka Zero Dark Thirty); although his role hasn’t yet been revealed.

Perrineau joins Kyle ChandlerJessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton and Chris Pratt in a film that will cented on the long hunt for Osama Bin Laden.

This will be Academy Award winner Bigelow’s first outing since The Hurt Locker, directing from a script penned by journalist and screenwriter Mark Boal (who also won an Academy Award for The Hurt Locker).

The pair had reportedly been working on this project for 3 years before the mission that resulted in Osama bin Laden’s death.

Zero Dark Thirty will incorporate those recent events into the film, although the filmmakers say that the film is more of “a study of the unsung heroes who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to take down bin Laden, not a celebration of Obama’s decision.

The intent thre being to leaving politics out of the film.

“There’s no political agenda in the film. Full stop. Period… A lot of people are going to be surprised when they see the film. For example, the president is not depicted in the movie. He’s just not in the movie,” ,” says screenwriter Boal.

When the project was first announced, I said that I expected Bigelow and Boal to infuse the same kind of realism, authenticity and urgency that we all saw in the critically acclaimed Hurt Locker. And based on the teaser trailer below, I’d say I wasn’t so far off; although I wasn’t immediately sure of what to make of the repeated question: ‘when was the last time you saw Bin Laden.’ It has to be intentional; I heard it the first time, loud and clear.

Sony Pictures will release the film on December 19th.
